The New Inn

The staff were very friendly. The building is nice and it is situated in a great location. We didn't use the pub but it was busy and seemed decent with plenty of seating inside and out.

The rooms were extremely dated and in parts derelict. The floor was very uneven throughout the room and in the bathroom in particular the floor was sagging. We were on the first floor and I almost had my foot go through the floor in the bathroom in a couple of different places. This is NOT safe and needs rectifying immediately. The bathroom was not clean. There were hairs and a hairy, used bar of soap in the bath. I had to ask the staff to re-clean the bathroom while we were out for the evening. We also found hairs on some of the towels. There were holes in various places and small bugs crawling in and out of them (the type you see in damp environments). Anytime you use water in the room there will be a very loud noise following from the water pump. Time to update the system as this will be disturbing for other guests in the property. Beds seemed clean at first glance, but when we entered the room there were hairs and red fluff on the double bed and the pillows were sunk. It seemed like someone had laid on the bed after it had been made, leaving a distinct body indent in it, so either a staff member had made the bed and then laid down perhaps or the bed had been made a while ago (days ago?) and then someone had used the room but the linen hadn't been replaced. Either way - shocking. I appreciate that this is an old property and the character needs to be retained. However, there's way to do this while still keeping it up to date and, most importantly, safe. There's clearly an issue with the floor of the first floor, perhaps from damp or a leak, where it's sagging badly and the floorboards have clearly rotted away. That needs to be sorted as a priority otherwise the whole building could become compromised. Keeping the rooms clean and tiy doesn't cost anything and should be a formality/expectation. Brekfast was supposedly on offer, however when I checked out (9am) the bar was a ghost town. No lights on, no smell of food being cooked.

We've been before and hopefully we'll go again. The evening meal was excellent [Lamb Casserole, Minted Lamb Casserole - both really good]. Good beer. Very pleasant staff/owner. Good breakfast.

The pub down stairs is spot on. Parking on site. Beautiful location.
