The Blackball Inn

Breakfast was lovely , definitely enough.

Well located. The room was clean with basic necessities

Our room was very small. The beds were comfortable but headboards are needed so that pillows don't fall off the bed. The walls are very thin and therr was a lot of noise at night (c11pm) and in the early morning (c5am) Toilets and showers were at the end of the corridor. In reality, the accommodation resembles a bunkhouse. There were no clear instructions aboiut breakfast- time, location etc. We managed to have breakfast only just before we were leaving at 8.15am. It was satisfactory.

Character building with lovely original features right in the middle of town. Great continental breakfast also.

Nothing other than the fact that it’s a little dated.

Super friendly staff, local bar, it’s not new but the place was very clean.

Blackball is a quirky place with a rich history and Blackball Inn could not be any different. Staff is welcoming, shared toilets are super clean and the king size bed in my bedroom was very comfortable. Make sure you pay attention to the pictures, photos, posters and other curiosities spread around the pub walls and hallways. The breakfast was simple but good, especially the bread. We also had a pizza for dinner which was better than many pizza places in Christchurch...overall a pleasant stay!

Very informal small town and equally informal inn. Very friendly staff. Nice live music in the garden. The town is worth visiting for its proud history. NZ Labour party formed here. Famous strike in 1908. A lot of hippyish people came in after the mine closed. Still has that vibe.

Facilities past their best but good enough.
