Clean and lovely. Miss the byriani they served! I enjoyed my stay there. The balcony was lovely.

The location is good, an easy walk to markets and the ghat is accessible from the building. It is very lively - and noisy - but I wouldn't call this a negative - it is the vibe of the town at this time of year. The bed was very comfy and with earplugs we were able to sleep. The staff are great and speak reasonable english. When my daughter became ill they were concerned and helpful. The food is ok - but hit and miss whether menu items are available. We had rooms on both side of the building - and the road and the river are both fascinating. The hotel is 125 years old and still has some original features, including screened porches.

The hotel could be cleaner. Things were tidy and attractive but there was dirt on the walls and the floor. There is a barrier at the end of the road 500 or so metres away and no info about that so we had a muck around getting to the hotel. Finally had to transfer to a tuk tuk. We noticed cars coming through to the hotel and arranged a taxi to pick us up at the door - and paid extra for getting them through the barrier (this was all pretty clear when we arranged it the day before leaving). On the day it turned out the car couldn't come to the door (although anpther group was picked up at the door while we were checking out). We were piled into a pedal rickshaw and take to a taxi - but there was a lot of confusion getting to this point. The extra we were told we would pay for a pick up at the door was now apparently for something else. NOTE that payment can ostesnibly only be taken from an Indian card or cash - but there is also a system called Hotel Pay that can send you a link to pay online - if you want to pay by foreign card you can asl for that.
