Hotel Roca Dura

this hotel is in a cute little town, well located for all that the area has to offer. the bar restaurant is really cool. in principle, the hotel’s construction is very original, and I could birdwatch from my bedroom window in the morning. the deck was also a nice space, as is the very steep and slippery trail to the river. great nature sounds.

While the creative construction of rock and wood is impressive to look at, it is not a comfortable property and it is not for everyone. there are so many steps and narrow stairs, including within the room, that the possibilities for getting hurt are endless. the space in the room is extremely cramped, with light switches that are hard to reach. the toilet has only a curtain. I did not try the shower. the space looked even more treacherous than the rest of the room. there is absolutely no place to put anything, not even one hook on the wall. a little ledge hods the phone. that’s it. there is also no parking. we asked for the price of a second night and it was $20 more than the booking.com price. the staff made no effort to keep us there. oh, and breakfast isn’t till 8, which is too late if you are planning a long hike. which is why you’re here.

Great location for a Chirripo suministro in the morning. clean. delightful staff. nice restaurant on location.

obnoxious dog next door barking all night

I loved the feel of the wooden structure and the back porch looking out into the trees and flowers was beautiful, I loved being out there. The location was good for getting into town and to restaurants but not if you're doing chirripo. Staff nice and helpful.

At first I loved the rustic vibe, but the rooms are not totally closed off it the outside, which normally would be great but at night with the lights on the moths come. Huge ones. Not ideal. And then these beetles crawled under the door at night so I'd wake up with dead beetles on my floor. Maybe the beetles are just a seasonal thing? But you can hear the moths banging on the other side of the wall trying to get to the light. Maybe the other rooms are better in this way. Also, I hiked chirripo and it's about 1.5 km away from the trail, which sounds fine but it is STEEP getting to the trailhead.

The staff were very friendly and the food was great.

River to swim in. Food in the restaurant. Quirky, interesting building, I've never seen anything like it. Nice deck to watch the birds from. Great location if you want to climb Cerro Chirripo.

It is near to the National Park Chirripó, next to the river. You can easily do a walk down to the river side.

Dark, small rooms without any hanger or shelves. The toilet is in shared airspace with the bedroom, so you can not close the door or anything like that. You can improve your relationship into the next level 😆 The hotel is next to a soccer field. And unfortunatelly both days there were a football match. Loud crowd... The staff don't speak english and they are not that kind welcoming ones... or we just had no luck.
