Casas da Quinta de Santa Cruz - Douro Land

The incredible view from the hotel and from the rooms, the comfort and decoration of the common area, the kindness of the staff, namely Salete. The swimming pool is also amazing, and the breakfast was delicious. you can seat for hours in the room’s balcony to enjoy the view of the Douro and Régua drinking a property’s wine.

Sound isolation is not the strongest feature. Also, it’s better to arrive and leave during the day, for the road to the hotel is a bit tricky, but this is what should happen to reach a place with such a beautiful view.

The location on top of the hill gives it an spectacular view over the river, the hills, the vineyards and Régua. You can walk in the property between the vineyards. The pool is beautiful (the water is very cold). Delicious breakfast with fresh squeezed orange juice and the orange cake. The staff was nice and helpful. The bed is quite hard but we liked it very much. Big balcony to chill and eats tapas & wine.

The road to get to the property pointed by GPS is quite challenging. I recommend that you approach the property via the road M600 which is much easier but longer. Walls are paper thin and you can clearly hear people in the other room so we felt little privacy (might depend on the room you get). A TV would be nice (although there is one on the common area), a little fridge would be nice (there is one in the common area but it’s shared and one of the other guests almost ate our things).

The stay was absolutely stunning. The small quinta had a private entrance on a small vineyard. The team reaches out a couple days before your stay to give instructions on how to enter. We parked the car and were already blown away by the view. Its located on the side of the hill, which be ready for a steep drive up the hill! Nothing we weren't use to after driving around all of Portugal, but having a small car is key in the country to less headaches! Anyways, we got in and all the rooms have a gorgeous view of the valley. There is a pool onsite that was too cold for us to try but looked refreshing for those hot days. The room had these massive windows you could open or just leave the blinds open for the view or shut for darkness while you sleep. You are allowed to walk the small vineyard which was quaint. Breakfast was prepared and it was delicious. They have the largest persimmons I've ever seen. The staff was very kind and attentive. Water is always available and they offer wine to purchase. I did not want to leave. The stay was wonderful. Also note that much of the staff only speaks Portuguese. We made it work with my limited vocabulary, so knowing some Portuguese will help a lot, or inform them of this so they can have a staff member who is bilingual be ready to help.

Breakfast was good. Nothing special but definitely good. Amazing view. The owner was there a did us a little tour in the winery they have there.

The pool was very cold, I wish the temperature was a little bit higher.

Place is superbly located at a high elevation overlooking the Douro Valley. Great views of the whole region down below. Watched the sun set from the balcony and it was truly beautiful. Room was well sized and the bathroom had a comfortable shower with abundant water. Francisco, the homeowner, was very hospitable. He was there in the morning to say hello and he showed us the winery in the basement. The breakfast was great, abundant and varied. We shared the living room, dining, and kitchen, and could stock things in the fridge.

Not much wrong honestly. One thing we did find was that the bed / mattress was not as comfortable as we hoped. Probably can solve that problem with a soft pillow top to make it easier on the back. Everything else was superb.
