Grand Samota Hotel

Clean, new and spacious room in Sumbawa Besar. Nice staff. Free shuttle to/from the airport.

People can smoke on the corridors of the hotel, just outside the rooms, and on the restaurant and breakfast area

The food in the restaurant is very delicious and good value, great breakfast (try the boiled eggs... they are cooked with lemongrass and crazy good), the beds were very comfortable, the hotel is beautiful and designed well (the courtyard is gorgeous and never hot), many of the staff and very kind and hospitable, nice lobby

I picked this hotel specifically because I needed tour assistance as Booking says they offer this service (if this applies to you, look for another stay) and the staff gave one option that would not have worked, then I was on my own... by luck/great tour company (Sumbawa Holiday Tour) I was able to go where I wanted at the last minute... seems like they should have more connection/options of tour companies; after my request for the airport shuttle was confirmed by the hotel, they somehow forgot about me... after waiting for an hour, I took a taxi to the hotel, it took some time to explain to the staff what happened, but when I did they were apologetic, reimbursed me for the taxi, and let me check in early (the shuttle is a great service... maybe just confirm multiple times) *If you don't need assistance booking tours, or if you are staying here before/after a multi-day tour, I recommend this hotel.

Lovely comfy bed, good shower: size & water power/heat, good TV, room design.

All stairs no lift, but staff carried bags so not a problem for us. Nothing much directly outside the hotel eg. shops, restaurant, coffee shop

Very comfortable beds, very little noise from outside, and friendly staff. Warm water in the shower, Netflix on the TV, airport shuttle.

The food was bad. Not just the regional dishes but something like pizza too. Also, not clean, especially the bathroom.

This is a very solid hotel. Probably the only hotel of its type in the city. The rooms are clean and fairly well-maintained. There are some weird design choices, like a lightswitch placed between the matress and the headboard, but they don't get in the way too much. Staff are eager to please. Pickup and dropoff from the airport are free and if you need a lift to one of the ports (say for a trip to Moyo Island) the hotel car will provide a lift at a very low price. The breakfast (costs a bit extra) is fine and worth the money I think. There is an Alpha Mart just a five minute walk away, and everything else in the city is no more than 10 or 15 minutes away on foot. The location is at the end of a quiet street in very good condition. You might hear some noise from the lobby from early-evening Karaoke, but I think everyone clears out by 8 or 9 o'clock.
