Poas Volcano Observatory Lodge & Glamping

It was in a nice setting and the couple running everything on behalf of their son were really really lovely people and very helpful. The owner was helpful via text. The beds were comfortable.

It was not particularly clean beyond the linen. The dish sponge was old, sodden with the previous user’s bubbles and well-worn; not enough bin space for a family of 4; stained table cloth; dirty floors; general grime on many surfaces and cobwebs. There was an awful drains smell which the couple tried hard to fix but it didn’t help. It wasn’t possible to see out of the front of the tent - not sure if this was due to dirt/degradation of the material or whether that’s just what it’s like. The breakfast wasn’t great. The heater provided (for an extra cost) didn’t really help. I wouldn’t have grumbled about all these things and would have just tolerated them as ‘just part of camping’ had the price tag not implied we would be getting a much better standard of accommodation.

The view, cool glamping hut, and best of all, the hosts, their hospitality, and wonderful breakfast and conversation.

I loved the location, the glamping pods and the garden. The pods had great facilities and lots of lovely warm blankets to keep us cosy on the cold Poas nights. I enjoyed a morning walk along the trail, listening to the birds among the dewy plants. The first night we went out for dinner and saw an armadillo in the garden. The bed was big and comfy and I had a great nights sleep. It rained for much of our stay - just drizzly rain - but that is to be expected in a cloud forest.
