This was a fantastic experience where we were welcomed into Mama Lea and Papa Mario’s home and we got to experience what living on a floating island was like. Communication was great - we were picked up at the bus terminal and taken to the pier to take the boat to their home. We enjoyed Papa Mario’s tour of Uros Island where he showed us what life was like for him - he showed us how important the reeds were to his family and how they used it in everyday life. The dinner was nice and fresh and lots of rugs and hot water bottles provided to keep us warm at night. Make sure you bring enough cash. In addition to the room, there is 80 soles boat transfer cost, 35 soles for dinner, and money for drinks and any tours you may want to do. Thank you for making us feel so welcome Mama Lea and Papa Mario - we will always remember our stay with you :)

"A peaceful retreat where you truly feel at home."

10.0

This intimate, welcoming lodge is the passion project of Don Mario and Mama Lea, both born and raised right here in the Uros community. They sustain their small floating island by harvesting reeds from the lake and by running this remarkable B&B with care, pride, and generosity. Mornings are magical. Sunrise over the lake is exquisite, the water often perfectly still, and the birdlife abundant. We found ourselves slowing down completely — reading books, braving the cold lake waters during the warmest part of the day, and playing cards together in the cozy dining hut. The peace here is profound. Don Mario offers a two-hour boat tour through the village, guiding guests through the reed beds while explaining how generations of Uros have used these reeds to cook, build, and navigate the lake they hold sacred. It was deeply moving and fascinating to learn about a way of life that feels both ancient and fragile, yet still very much alive. Both Mario and Lea are also gifted artisans. Don Mario creates drawings that beautifully capture the lake and its culture, while Mama Lea transforms these designs into pillow covers, table runners, and wall hangings that are truly lovely and meaningful keepsakes. A few practical notes: the showers are gravity-fed and solar-heated, which means lower water pressure and the hottest water in the late afternoon. The midday sun is intense, so wide-brimmed hats and sunscreen are essential. Finally, a word about Uros itself. Before arriving, I read many reviews dismissing the islands as a tourist trap rather than a genuine community. While tourism clearly plays an important role in the local economy, it is equally clear that this is a real, living community with deep roots. The Uros have existed here for countless generations, passing down knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship. They are skilled fishermen and masters of using reeds for nearly everything imaginable.

"Excepcional!"

10.0

Location was fabulous. Hosts were very friendly. Food was ok. Trip organised with Don Mario (2hours) was brilliant, fantastic insight to how people live on the islands.

We had a room with ensuite, however there isn't any hot water in either the shower or sink. Room very cold, no heating available even though there was a gas heater in the room. The host kindly gaves us some water bottles.
