"We had a great family holiday in Castletownbere."

As a family group it was lovely to have three lodges close together.

"Very relaxing stay in a lovely lodge (although it is somewhat “tired”), in a fantastic location!"

8.0

Location was superb! Nice roomy house

Overall the property was a bit tired and dated! A few items gave problems; one shower leaked, one ring on the hob was broken (but we used the other 3 rings for the limited cooking we did) and the temperature in the main fridge was not low enough (but we used the beer fridge in the utility room mostly). Attempts were made to fix the shower but this was only likely to be a temporary fix. Surprisingly there were no clothes drawers in any if the bedrooms, just wardrobes! Also nowhere to hang coats down stairs, ie no coat hooks or stands! However, these minor issues did not detract from a lovely relaxing stay in the lodge!

View lovely from some of the houses. Ask for one looking into the beach

Houses are great and spacious but need upgrading in parts. Eg some kitchen cabinets cracked.

Location, privacy, central, a lot for the kids to do.

Gate to pier and part of the ditch unsafe for little kids.

"Stunning location, but not without its problems..."

7.0

There is much to commend Berehaven Lodge, the location on the Beara Peninsular is absolutely stunning and the setting in which the lodges are located is wonderful. The lodges are very roomy, and we also found the onsite restaurant to be very good. All the staff are very welcoming and helpful, with a special mention for Shelia. For ourselves, being able to bring our dog was an added bonus. Sadly the overall experience was somewhat let down by attention to detail, see below...

The kitchen in our particular lodge was looking fairly tired, with the decorative finish coming off a number of the units. The kitchen sink wouldn't hold water, (defective plug and no plastic bowl). Some of the ceiling lights didn't work. There was a leak around the Velux window in the main bedroom when it rained. It was clear this was an old leak rather than a new one. The bathroom showers weren't too special, one never seemed to get hot, the other took some time and both had poor water pressure. Whilst this may seem like a catalogue of 'moans', it's actually intended as constructive criticism. For two people we were able to improvise and overcome most of the niggles, but a larger group, especially with younger children may well have found these issues more impactive. Eliminate the minor problems and you will be able to provide a first rate holiday experience for your visitors...
