Im Apartment roch es sehr nach Essen, vor allem nach älterem Fett, besonders in den Küchenschränken. Auch war das Gebäude sehr schlecht isoliert, so dass es bei starkem Regen innen sehr klamm war, fast wie in einem Zelt.

Wenn man abseits von allem sein möchte, liegt es super mitten im Wald mit allem ausgestattet was man möchte.

The set-up was really pleasant. It was a lovely place. Staff were good. We appreciated the effort that goes into running places like this.

The only thing was the value for money. We found it an expensive place to stay, and for the price expected those little extras which weren't there- like an extra blanket, sharp kitchen knives. The reality of not having a resident manager was that we had to bother the staff via email, and the housekeeper came just once a day. Again, it was all manageable, and staff were responsive, it's just that for the price, we expected something different.

The key was kept in a lockbox. The code was communicated via Booking.com messenger weeks before. So we did not stress on the road to this place (we travelled Hong Kong - Auckland - Christchurch - Punakaiki on that day!). The lodge is secluded and surrounded by native forest, with ponga tree ferns literally touching the house. Quiet. Comfy. Good bed. Close to Pororari River Track and Punanaiki blow holes.

Very little actually. A broken mirror. A little dust in the bathroom... No reason for you to hesitate, :)

I think the photos don’t do justice to this property. The room looks very welcoming, the bed is comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped. Great and quiet location
