The best place we’ve stayed in Guatemala. Perfect place to see some birds and relax. Run by a very sweet family in a peaceful part of the world. Reasonable food prices and kayak rentals.

We absolutely loved this accommodation, one of the most relaxing and enjoyable stays of our time in Guatemala. Martha is so lovely and helpful and the food that she (and her helper) cook is excellent and great value for money. You can also get fresh coconut water (she cuts down a coconut from their trees there and then!). They will also help you with transfers and have kayaks for hire if you feel like venturing out! The cabin was spacious and clean with good mosquito nets and a surprisingly good bathroom considering their rustic style. We thought it was great value for money and would recommend it to anyone!

The shower only had cold water and it was quite in the evenings which meant showering wasn't the most pleasant (we just kept our showers short!). The kayaks are stored in the deck meaning that space can be a bit tight if a few people want to use the space at the same time.

Marte and her husband provide a welcome family feel. Very attentive to your needs. Not a party place. Easy access to Livingston and other attractions.

Quiet, calm, beautiful place on the river with really nice home cooked meals available, option to rent kayaks and go for a variety of activities and most of all amazing hosts! They helped me organise everything I needed and I truly had the most relaxing 3 days in 10 weeks of travelling. It’s the only native owned hotel around the area and truly gives you an unique opportunity in experiencing life on the river. Ask the hosts about going to Tigre caves or taking the walk through the forest to Livingston, both inexpensive activities with local guides from the communities, which invest back in training chefs, tour guides etc and practicing sustainable tourism in the area. Cannot recommend enough!

Hotel Casa Maya was an amazing place to stay - run by a lovely and welcoming local Q'eqchi' family, they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and help us enjoy the area. The rooms are big and comfortable, the food was delicious and they would tailor dishes to us, and the setting is stunning. We hired their kayaks every day and went off exploring. I highly recommend staying here!
