Casa Maya

We stayed in a lovely wooden bungalow in the jungle with a bathroom and a veranda with a couple of hammocks. The family are super friendly, the food is excellent and a reasonable price. We hired out a canoe for a couple of days and slowly paddled round the back waters, completely gorgeous.

The family were lovely! Unique experience.

We were a captive audience. There was nothing to do, nowhere to go, and nothing to eat…you literally had to pay for everything and got what you got.

There was No daily Cleaning of the Room - Lots of bugs in the bedroom - No Hot water in the bathroom and shower(and the water was freezing). When I came in, they asked me to pay immediately for the 3 nights stay Learning that they will not clean the room, I decided to leave after the second night but I never got reimburse for the third night.

Friendly host, we became part if the family within 2 days. No moscitoes.

The family is amazing. They are all so kind and warmhearted, especially Martha is the good soul of this place. Food tastes outstanding, reasonably priced. You can rent Kayaks and they offer you a boat shuttle service to/from Rio Dulce and Livingston. Felt more like a homestay than a hotel.

What should I say, this is probably one of the best accommodations we have ever been during our travels. Not regarding the rooms, those are very basic (but clean) and have a roof which is open on the side so all kind of insects might get into your room (we only had one moth one night visiting us but the mosquito nets help to keep them generally out of your bed). But what is outstanding is the hospitality and the kindness of the owner Martha and her family. You really feel part of the family and everybody is supportive here. Yes, you need a Kayak or a Lancha to get somewhere, but this is no big deal and there is enought to do around the hostel using those for more than 2 full days (e.g. Tiger Cave and Livingston). But you can also just relax since the view is stunning (especially the sunset). Additionally they offer food and drinks (and free water) for a very reasonable price and if you require anything they will try to help.

Probably only the fact that there was no hot shower and the WiFi was quite slow. But if you have your own SIM the connection there is pretty good.

Marta and family run an awesome hotel. The make every effort to make you feel welcome and your stay as wonderful and possible! It gives a fairly unique home stay feel which we really loved. We stayed in a simple but comfortable and clean bungalow. There is a great eating area and place to relax at the river. The food was all delicious! We rented kayaks and had a beautiful paddle into one of the tributaries and then finished off swimming in the natural hot spring a short paddle from Casa Maya.

We loved it all. Only addition which I think will come in time is a hot shower!

Very helpful and lovely family, and Martha cooks fantastic breakfasts and dinners. There are long tables so meals are the time to chat with other guests. Beautiful surroundings and many activities in nature, also easy to get to Livingston for a day trip.

The family is the most amazing, wonderful, kindest people. We loved staying with them and it felt like a homestay more than a "hotel" which we loved. The location cannot be beat. It was a quick kayak to hot springs, caves, waterfalls and food and they help arrange it all. This homestay experience was a great way to start our vacation!

There is not hot water which is disappointing cause you are always playing in the river so would like a nice, warm rinse. The water is cold cold.. but if you shower from after being in the sun it isn't too bad I guess,
