Black Bull Retreat, Barmston with Private Hot Tubs

The lodge itself was clean, warm and tidy. The area outside where the hot tub was is spacious and cleab too.

At booking it asked do we want to pay extra for a parking space next to the lodge which we did, on arrival every lodge had a parking space so really paid extra for somthing which is already available to everyone without paying. We took food to prepare during our break, we quickly found the oven did not work, text the number and got zero responce! This then cost further money to go purchase futher food that we didnt need to oven for.

Looked lovely on arrival but …

The door keys was in door on arrival not in lock box, there was broken blinds and windows with no blinds , which wasn’t private at all especially at an evening when dark! We had to use the throw from the bed to improvise , there was potatoes still in dish washer when tried to use and the filter was disgusting ,the whole lodge wasn’t clean and very dusty , shower head was sliding down all the time ,the hot tub jets stopped working after less than a hour. Tv kept flickering and couldn’t watch it, the floor throughout was filthy as after the hot tub stopped working we used our towel inside the door way to dry our feet and the under side was filthy. I paid Extra for my dog , and nearly straight away he came from under table with a wrist band clearly left by previous guests, he is a puppy and could of been a dangour to him so the cleanliness was not there from the start , it clearly said on signs to leave the lodge as found , however there was no hoover and quite frankly it wasn’t clean from the start , this trip was to celebrate our dads life’s which to be honest spoilt it some what and for the price well I think is unaceptable

Location is nice.

Been before and it was great. This time we went and we wasn't really happy. WiFi wasn't great and had to link a TV to my phone. We had 3 TVs but only 2 remotes with only one remote having batteries in. The main bedroom didn't even have a remote at all, which resulted in me and my partner having to sleep in single beds just so we could watch TV in bed. I messaged the emergency number making them aware of this and we had no response which resulted in our whole stay being the same. Really not happy about this and ruined the weekend.

We liked the view. The cabin was cosy. The hot tub was on waiting for us.

The light near the hit tub, was constantly flashing, we had a broken light, not very good if you are epileptic!! Too many rules, had to self clean upon leaving ( i always leave places in a clean condition, but for it to be expected isnt right) the mattress did not fit the bed frame, the mattress was too small for the frame, very tiny, main bedroom, had to walk side ways to get to the side of the bed near the window. The TV's were slow and out dated, ran of the Internet so took ages to load a show.

This is the second time I have visited this amazing place,perfect location for walking dogs,lodges have everything you need,but the most spectacular thing about this place is the blackbull pub the landlord and landlady and all the staff are amazing can’t do enough for you so warm and friendly and welcoming they have become friends I am sad to go home but I will be returning very soon thankyou to the blackbull for another memorable fantastic time it’s five star 🌟 from me guys Love Clare dent ❤️❤️❤️

Nothing I did not like it was perfect

Very comfortable little place to stay for a couple of days. Comfy beds lovely hot tub and nice location. Everything you need for your stay. Very quiet and peaceful

When we first got in the hot tub it was full of leaves before the cover had been taken off which makes me question if it was cleaned. The glasses and utensils were dirty but it’s possible that’s because previous people didn’t clean properly. Needs a good hoover and everything pulled out. Kettle was also dirty inside so we didn’t use it. I’m not sure if the pub is directly linked to property owners but the food there was not good so I would plan to leave the side for good. Microwaved and cold. Lovely lovely staff tho

Came for my partners 30th and we was really impressed keys where in the door ready and door was unlocked so was very quick to enter witch was perfect with the weather the way it was soon as we entered the property we could see it was spotless and smelled clean checked all the rooms and they where all the same was perfectly clean through and through had a little issue with one of the towels but informed a member of staff and they delt with it there and then and gave us extra towels had a tv in each room witch was great all facilities that you could ever need ie fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and all the other ones the entire lodge was perfect and pet friendly the hot tub was up to temperature on arrival and was perfect and clean no issues with that at all Went for some food at the pub/restaurant on site staff where lovely and very welcoming we had pizza and cheese chips witch was perfect Woodford pizza was amazing all was decent priced and very tasty Was a perfect getaway for a few days would definitely stay again!

Only 1 tiny thing a door mat on the inside of the lodge only due to coming out of the hot tub and then having wet feet and then getting it all over that's is it but we made it work either way a mop was provided so it wasn't an issue as much

Pricey at the on site pub but very lovely staff and very welcoming
