NOTHING! Johnathon runs a scam, so watch out! AVOID at all costs.

The day that we arrived Jonathon told us that our room could not be occupied, as the window had been broken by the previous guests. He said he did us a favour and booked another hotel for us, as he has a big group coming in and could not house us in any other room. He said he paid double the cost up front for the new accommodation. He said we only had to pay him what we had booked for Mannakin Lodge. Stupidly we paid without viewing the other property first. We went to the other accommodation and were a little taken aback, and it took some time for us to realise that we were being scammed. After spending a short time trying to work out if we could stay in the room that was given us, which happened to be nothing like what we had booked, it was dirty (with mouse droppings on the floor), it was above a restaurant and when the exhaust fan ran it shook the entire outside wall and was noisy. I asked the accommodation provider if Johnathon had paid for the room and was told that he had not. This confirmed that he had lied to us. We then decided to try and get our money back and find somewhere to stay. He refused to answer our calls or messages, so we went to speak to him. Calmly we tried to negotiate getting our money back because he had no right to book something else on our behalf. Even after us offering to pay for the first night, he still refused to refund anything. He just wanted our money. I asked to see the room with the broken window and he came up with excuse after excuse, and then decided to tell us that he wasn't even going to give us the room we had booked. Again, another lie. He kept saying how much of a favour he had done us, but this goes against Booking.com policy. My advice is, do not give this guy any business. We found another place and the agent there was appalled at Jonathon's behaviour and has made the effort to let other accommodation providers in Monetverde know of his scam, so others do not get sucked in.

We loved Location of the property and enjoyed seeing the Coates on the balcony 😀 Bed is a little hard but at the end of the day you get what you pay for. No aircon or fans in the room, a fan would be a good addition. Aircon isn't necessarily required as it is a little cooler in monteverde than other places.

The question is good, although it’s quite a steep walk from the bus station at the local buses available. The lodge is walking distance from the Montiverde park. The staff were very friendly and provided lots of information there was free coffee available in the morning and it was possible to use the kitchen as well. There was a nice balcony and it was good to have the wildlife right outside my window.

I agree with other comments that the place needs a lot of work and refreshing. I don’t think it was dirty. It’s just old. My room smelled of dumb. The mattress was sinking in the middle. It all just felt dated.
