Het voelt als thuiskomen, warme mensen. De eigenaren wonen zelf op het perceel en zijn continu betrokken bij de accomodatie, heel persoonlijk! Het zwembad is prachtig en niet te veel chloor.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience. As a doctor who has dedicated my life to helping others, I value fairness and professionalism, and unfortunately I did not experience that here. I requested a 7.6 surfboard but was given a heavily repaired 7.4 instead. During normal conditions while paddling out, the board snapped exactly along previously patched areas. Despite the visible prior damage, I was told I owed 20,000 pesos under the waiver agreement. When I asked to discuss the charge fairly with the owners, I received messages including: “We need this damage settled today otherwise we will pass this matter to the local police.” and later: “There’s no compromise on our side…” Concerned by the situation, I went to the local police station myself for advice and attempted to resolve things calmly. Unfortunately, I found the communication aggressive and unprofessional throughout, which made me uncomfortable enough to leave and find alternative accommodation. Other points guests should know: No air conditioning, rooms get very hot at night Thin walls and significant early morning noise from surf lessons Limited social atmosphere due to the small number of rooms I would strongly encourage guests to inspect equipment carefully before use and fully understand the waiver policies before signing.

Mao Mao Surf is visually very appealing. The photos definitely match reality: beautiful design, stylish small huts, and a lovely pool with a lot of attention to detail. If you are looking for a photogenic place to stay, you will probably enjoy it at first sight.

However, it’s important to know that the property only consists of five small huts. Because of this, there is hardly any social atmosphere, and the owners seem rather distant. If you are looking for connections with other travelers or a more familiar surf community vibe, you may end up disappointed. One major issue for me was the temperature inside the huts. Without air conditioning, it gets extremely hot. The available fans are also very loud, so sleeping with earplugs is almost necessary. On top of that, there are often loud parties nearby until late at night, at times it feels like your bed is in the middle of a nightclub. Around midday, there was also regularly a strong greasy smell coming from the neighboring buildings. The surf lessons themselves are very good and definitely recommendable, even though they are quite expensive compared to other surf schools in Siargao. But one important warning: carefully inspect your surfboard for existing damage before your session. My friend ended up having to pay for an entire board, even though it was already old and repaired with tape, and the damage happened during a normal surf lesson. There was absolutely no room for negotiation, unfortunately, it really felt like money comes first here.

It’s a good surf camp. Breakfast options are great. Staff is amazing. We enjoyed dipping in the pool after a long tiring day. The shower (bamboo faucet) has a heater.

1. The bed was too small for two people, especially given Siargao’s heat and humidity. Without air-conditioning, sleeping comfortably was difficult. 2. The water pressure was weak. 3. At night, we could constantly hear animals or insects scratching inside the walls and roof. It also seemed like termites had already started damaging the wooden roof supports, as we would regularly find wood dust falling onto the toilet every morning. 4. The neighboring hostel was extremely noisy and hosted parties almost every night, which made it hard to rest. 5. The Wi-Fi connection did not reach the room at all. We had to stay outside or in the shared common area just to access the internet, which was especially inconvenient since we rely on stable Wi-Fi for work. 6. There is an awful smell coming from somewhere at night… can be the sewage but it was really bad.

Deze plek heeft iets magisch. Het is een kleinschalig hotel met 5 hutjes die om het zwembad liggen. Je kan zo je kamer uitrollen en een duik nemen. Alles is goed onderhouden en schoon. De ervaring van de buiten badkamer was ook gaaf. Ze hebben een lekker ontbijt/koffie zaakje bij het resort met de beste iced cappuccino. Je bent zo in General Luna centrum en ook zo bij het strand. Er zit een laundry om de hoek en veel andere leuke lunch/diner plekken. Je kan er surflessen krijgen van de beste surfers en je zou hier makkelijk meer dan een week kunnen blijven. De kamers zijn groot genoeg voor twee personen en je hebt ook ruimte om je kleding op te hangen. De bedden zijn wat smal maar liggen wel heel comfortabel. We hebben de AC geen een keer gemist ondanks dat het erg heet was buiten. De huisjes waaien zelf door en de waaiers in de huisjes zijn top!

Het was jammer dat de koffiebar rond 3pm dicht ging en soms hoor je wat muziek van de hostels om je heen, maar dat was nooit tot laat en heeft ons niet gestoord.
