YerbaBuena Lodge

We had such a peaceful stay at YerbaBuena. Vwry quiet. You felt like in the middle of a fairy tale with all the animals you could watch: agutis, coatis, armadillo, birds, butterfly... just sitting inside by the window. We loved it!

Great and lovely location ! Wake up with sun and bird from the large tree edged yard before breakfast. I photographed several birds on my list right there. There are multiple birding guides at that time just outside the gate showing folks around. Within half a block is Stella’s cafe, great for birds and monkeys, a Women’s COOP for great typical food, and hand made gifts. There is also a wonderful coffee shop connected to a coffee farm. Short walk to Curi Cancha reserve—great place for quetzals and big ficus trees; an ice cream shop connected to local dairy, and the Eternal Children’s Forrest Tigre Station. Regina was gracious and quite helpful. Nice common area. Room was spartan but comfortable and clean. Great place for children.

Not specific to here, but the narrow road is challenging with large pot holes and bar ditch. I arrived at dark with very thick fog so it was hard to see the name over the big gate setback off the road. Perhaps a reflector indicating the location would help. Make sure you have them on What’s App before you get there.

Lovely garden setting. Very hospitable host. Close to a lovely restaurant Stellas and whole food shop. Very close to the Cloud forest reserve.

I booked 2 separate “villas” for my family of 9. The only problem was the 3 bedroom “Villa.” It smelled like a bat cave (overwhelming urine smell). Could not open the windows and there is no screen door so can’t leave the door open. Messaged the owner and said they would look into it but nothing happened and tried to tell me that it is a normal “mountain rain forest condition.” Explained that the other “villa” we booked did not have this smell. There were empty scented candles so I suspect they knew about this problem and attempted to mask the smell. There is a bay cave nearby and I wonder if some bats go into the “villa”. It was a relief to leave this place. I rarely write a bad review as I am not very picky but this place was not habitable.

Stunning gardens and great location! Saw monkeys, guatusas and squirrels in the property. Close to the nature but with easy access to groceries and lunch.

The villa is very rustic. The main room is beautiful but the second room feels very dark and patched up. Photos were not added to the villa when booking so it was disappointing. The roof is zinc so you hear animals walking on the roof all night. Great to be close to nature but bring earplugs :)

Bungalow layout was good for a family of 4. Single room for my friend was spacious. Owner was very sweet & a pleasure to work with.

Bungalow needs a room fan. Air is always damp & nothing dries. A fan would help immensely! Refrigerator/Freezer leaked water in bungalow. Stove worked but would shut off. Any spec or crumb of food in the kitchen was covered in ants. Ending up keeping everything in the fridge. Kids had more bugs in the back room & bug bites. They slept with bug spray & also wiped down bedding. Didn’t have bug bite problem in main room.

It is a modest, but clean and affordable property. It has a wide lawn and you can see aguti and coati walk through. It is close to excellent restaurants within walking distance. Regina was very kind with a tour of the property and recommendations nearby.

The walls are a little thin, perhaps a wall hanging would dull the noise. And they need a grate or metal sheet over the drain to the road! You must be very careful exiting to the road, it scraped our car bottom. And you must get out and unlock the gate to get your vehicle out. This makes it safer but a bit more process exiting and entering. Maybe a net over the roof, to avoid the noise of things dropping on the roof at night.

We arrived off season so we had the place to ourselves, which was nice and helpful, because our room was very small. Beautiful garden, beautiful housing and beautiful surroundings

The room was a bit to small for two people with one suitcase each and wet clothes from the rain that we wanted to hang somewhere but couldn’t, no space to unpack, but we managed.
