Vila Calaça

The accommodation is fabulous. In the middle of the hotel complexes, the flowering garden, which Georges and his colleagues regularly tend to, is literally an oasis. The terrace over the ocean is a great place to relax. In addition, there is a supermarket within easy reach, which is regularly open until 11pm, a bus stop for Aerobus and other companies, and last but not least, the beach (for a fee), where there is access not only to the ocean, but also a pool with warmer water and all the facilities. The Villa itself is gorgeous, including the original wood floors and other details. Housekeeping is taken care of in an exemplary manner, and we received a new set of towels and linens for our 12 day stay.

We were unfortunately unlucky enough to experience a cockroach invasion in the kitchen. We spent few hours exterminating them and although Georges came the next day and applied poison around the house, a few still appeared the following days. It is a tropical island with all the beauties but also insect.

The location was great for us being away from the busy centre of Funchal but just a few minutes away on the regular buses. The airport bus is also pretty regular and stop no 18 - Estrada Monumental opposite Monumental Grill Restaurant is 4 mins walk, €8 return. The Vila was perfect for us with roomy space for two people, good shower with rainfall head and the beautiful garden with palms, Strelitzia and private terrace above the sea. Everything that could be needed for a short stay was here including a laundry room. Wifi was excellent throughout our stay. Restaurants, sea front pools, and the excellent Forum Madeira shopping mall are all in walking distance. The Forum Madeira has a restaurant inside the Grocery store used by many locals which offers multiple hot, fresh food choices for just a few euros and was good quality fresh fish , pasta and meat dishes. We were going to rent a car, but drop off/pick up at Pico do Arieiro and a number of other West Coast tours etc was enough and the remaining time was happily spent just enjoying the Vila and it’s amazing garden. Could not ask for a better location. Ocean and views a stones throw away. Nice to sit on patio and absorb the light of day making its was over the ocean. Beautiful flowers and greenery on property. Even had a cat with kittens in yard that were warming up to us. Georges was very accommodating and helpful with questions that we had. A wonderful stay in a beautiful part of our world.

Bathroom facilities somewhat outdated. Floor tiles and shower tiles should be considered replacing. Furniture in living area should be considered replacing as they were not very comfortable.

Location was great, the garage was a big plus. Views from the terrace were fantastic.

Pity about the huge apartment block opposite ....

The garden is lovely with the Balcony overlooking the sea giving great views of the sunrise. Close to bus routes into Funchal centre and lots of nice walks along the coast.

so much to like. the place was spotlessly clean, the beds and pillows comfortable, towels great , a laundry which was wonderful to have, a patio with lovely view and excellent location. turn right and you are at the sea and left and you are near shops, banks and restaurants. The gardens are beautiful too.

there is an apartment block right in front of the unit and was quite noisy at night.
