Casa da Talhada - Stone House

The location of the house was in the center of the old city and was close to everything. The house is huge!

You can't enter the Old City area by car, which made it very difficult to access the house, especially with luggage. The apartment has a lot of stairs, the beds creak, and the rooms are cold this time of year (although there are heaters in the rooms that don't heat the room properly).

Wow!! What an experience. This place is huge and so very interesting. It was perfect for our group of 6. Spread out over several levels (lots of stairs) and including two patios, the latter of which is an incredible place to just sit and enjoy morning coffee. Period decorations and sections of the original walls that make up part of the structure make this feel just like staying in a medieval castle…but with all the modern conveniences. The rooms were clean and comfortable, though can be cold at this time of year…particularly the large master bedroom where the single electric heater had a hard time keeping out the February night chills. Picking up the keys and getting settled in were very easy. We will definitely return.

Wow! It is one of the most remarkable places we have ever stayed. Book it if it is available! This home allows you to experience an old walled city by spending the night in a large home built into the stone of the medieval wall. I knew it would be the highlight of our 10 days in Portugal and it did not disappoint. We were traveling as a couple with our 2 20-something sons and having three bedrooms is an ideal configuration for us when we travel, but often hard to find in Europe. This had three bedrooms and two very modern baths, and it was enormous. Although I thought I had studied the photos on the site, they do not do justice to the home and the gardens because they are in so many different pieces and on two floors. Our favorite part (besides just spending the night in a walled city) was waving to the tourists walking along the top of the wall just above our heads. We spent most of our time just walking through the house in amazement. In the evening, we played cards in the kitchen while we did our laundry (it even had a dryer - very unusual in our travels in Portugal). The part of the stone wall in the white tiled kitchen made us feel like we had walked back in history to another time. The home is decorated with images and alcoves with Christian art from the period and the primary bedroom has beds that feel like they belong in a castle. It all lends to the ambiance and feels like sleeping in a museum but it is just for you and your family. I am interested in the history of this house and wish the owners would provide some information and context for this unique home.

We traveled to Obidos in early January, so it was beautiful and sunny, but chilly at night. Although each room had a portable room heater, everything is made out of stone and tile, and I put on all my layers of clothes, and never felt like I got warm. I'm sure in the heat of summer, the cool stones would serve as natural air conditioning. But for a one night experience like this, I didn't mind the chill.

Fantastic property, very unique and lots of antiquities. So fitting for such a great medieval city Would love to be there in the summer months to enjoy the beautiful manicured garden and views

The many steps inside were a challenge to us oldies all late 70s and an 80 year old but well worth the effort Would have liked directions from picking up the key to the property.

Amazing location. Very comfortable and warm house (wood fires were great). Kitchen had everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner. Just be careful of the car you drive to this property. We had a large van (8 seater) and that was ok but I would go any bigger.

This property literally took us back in time! It’s truly amazing, the history the layout, just wow! We’ll be talking about this place for years to come! We will definitely stay at Casa da Talhada anytime we are in Obidos! Owners are very responsive ss well.
