Karleta Homestay

Karleta Homestay is a real Homestay. You can have dinner with the family and everyone is so incredibly friendly and welcoming and the food was one of the best we had in Indonesia. The kids are so kind and interested. They speak really good English. If you want a hot shower it’s possible. The WiFi was also working fast and reliable. It was a place where we had the feeling we want to stay longer.

The hosts were so friendly and helpful. This was our second stay here, and we will be back.

In an island full of very friendly people this family was the friendliest of all. A simple yet comfortable place to stay. The family invite you to eat a traditional dinner and even join in evening prayers if you want. Such nice people, one of the best parts of our trip so far.

We loved our stay. The house is simple but very clean. The family is wonderful. Very friendly and kind. Very good people. It was a wonderful experience. The dinner served was also very good. We stayed with our children and it was a wonderful experience. It is not a hotel but the human component surpasses everything. Thank you

Beautiful gardens and fantastic hosts

I stayed for one night and felt immediately comfortable in the house and garden. There's a lovely little hut to sit in and overlook the town. It is up in the foothills and quiet. My room was spacious with a lovely window outlook. Hironomus and family are warm and welcoming. I was able to share meals and some time in the evening. They organised my transfer to another town and I was picked up at the door after an early and generous breakfast. I was touched by Karleta Homestay's kindness and hospitality.

It is a little out of town, but my motor rider found it easily. There are small shops nearby. I was ok with a simple, rustic almost camp-like bathroom and grateful to have my own space. However, it is very basic and visitors may need to adjust expectations and balance expectations with the overall charming experience.

It was a very nice experience to spend time with local people and being welcomed into their home. The children are super lovely and well behaved. It was great to talk to Magdalena about all sorts of things. Dinner was delicious, and breakfast was fresh from the bakery. The next day Hironimus went out of his way to drive me to help me find an ATM. They have installed showers for their Western guests. The water was accidentally turned off when I was there, but the girls gave me a bucket of warm water so I could have a shower. This is a place where you come to meet and spend time with the family. All in all it was a lovely homestay experience.

Unfortunately the timing of my one night stay coincided with the parents not being there until the evening, as they went to visit their son who lives 2 hours away, and they only see him twice a year. Because of this I was welcomed by the lovely Karla (their oldest daughter), but it was much harder to arrange for me to visit nearby sites. She did her best and arranged for their regular driver to come to the house to discuss options. But without them being there he went a bit rogue with the pricing and I couldn't do much as he didn't speak English and I really wanted to see the sites. Magdalena told me afterwards that they make sure their guests pay fair prices, but since it was the first time they weren't there they couldn't help me in the moment. Because the house is located quite far out of town I felt a little isolated at first because the parents weren't there and I couldn't ask for advice on how to get around and recommendations. But that was a rare occurrence.

The hosts are a wonderful family that treat guests as family. We felt so peaceful being here.

We arrived late after a long trip from Labuan Bajo (7 hrs (yes, we were slow)), and were welcomed with a warm cup of tea and a nice welcoming conversation. First we relaxed a bit and then had dinner with the parents and their three lovely daughters. After dinner we talked about all kinds of subjects, a really good way to get to know each other and to find out more about Indonesia. Having had a good night's sleep we had a local breakfast with tea and coffee, some more talks and we were back on the road pretty early. Our stay at Karleta Homestay really added to our trip though beautiful Indonesia, would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
