Matilde's Chalet Etna Nature House

Immersed in nature. Quiet and secluded. Staff was very helpful. NEcessarily items for breakfast were provided.

Beautiful location and the scenery was outstanding and nowhere like I have stayed before.

Great communication with the host. Access to the property is via a private road with gates (keys provided with the accommodation) along a mountain road, including a section that goes over a hardened lava stream. We managed to drive in with a regular sports car; in the summer, a 4x4 is not necessary. On the property, there are two houses and a treehouse for children – amazing, our kids spent all their free time there (there are toys). We stayed in the small house, which surprised us with its spaciousness: a bedroom with a bathroom and a living room with a kitchenette. Breakfast was a classic Italian one, and upon request, the host provided us with more croissants. In the summer, the house naturally cools and ventilates; one side is completely exposed with stones. The house is very nicely decorated, everything in wood with taste. The bathroom is stone, so it's cool on the feet. Outside, there is a short path (uphill) with viewpoints over the lava streams from 1983. It’s a 15-minute drive to the top of Mount Etna, making this place a wonderful base for excursions..

The fox came only once, and our daughter was disappointed :).

If you love nature, this is the place for you! Do not hesitate, book. You’ll ABSOLUTELY love it.

It is the ultimate Etna Lava experience, sec;uted in the forest between 2 lava stream from 1986 & 2001. It is amazing if you like the nature and experience the energy of the Etna vulcano.

The chalet is deep in the national park with quite spectacular larva flows surrounding it. The surrounding forest provides very good shade throughout the chalet’s surrounds. The short ‘nature trail’ within the property offers great views up towards Etna and down towards to the sea. The Parco dell’Etna app is very good for maps, paths etc.

The track to the property is long which is fine, but it is poorly maintained in places and there are 2 locked barriers which need to be opened and closed on each trip. It is of course fair enough but all internet relies on 4G which is patchy. Some comfortable chairs/outdoor loungers would be nice.

Fantastic location. Beautiful chalet. The added playroom, bbq, fire pit etc are great.

The listing shows restaurant but it does not have one. We had to wait for over 30 min at the gate to be let in despite correctly communicating the arrival time well in advance. The heater had a fault and blew smoke into the house. The bath missed a plug that was never replaced. Breakfast was a bit small.

The location of the chalet is really amazing, right in the middle of nature. Quiet and relaxing, far away from the crowds. Very comfortable base for visiting mount Etna. It was not a problem getting there with a private car. The little hike behind the chalet is a cute bonus. The owner was helpful and kind.

Take into account that the chalet is quite small and compact. As a family of 4 it was okay for us, but I'm not sure i'll recommend it for bigger groups. The staircase between the floors is steep and narrow, less suitable for little kids and older people.
