The Kanuka Cabin

Beautiful property, loved the set up and the privacy but the views were incredible.

You are not able to cook at the property. Which was unfortunate as had planned to cook and stay at cabin all night but couldn’t.

We had a magical time in the cabin, amazing views and comforts, easy to find and the hosts were helpful and respected our privacy also assuring that we contact them if any issues arose and they didn’t

Everything! The privacy, the location, such an unbelievable place to escape too!

Absolutely nothing

The views. The spa. The seclusion (sometimes). The goat was a cute guest we met coming up the driveway.

The place is small! We had 2 suitcases, backpacks and we could barely move inside the place. The shower is interesting in Winter. I wish we were warned about how cold it gets because the shower is literally outside! I think the shower would have been nicer indoors with a window to see the view to get the same effect as being outside. The views were also a bit obstructed by the trees in front. The property (farm land) hosts a number of properties so we heard quite a few cars close by. The driveway to the property is also a mission (especially in a small car!) and it was difficult to know if there was anyone else coming up since there was only 1 lane in/out. The location is quite a bit of a way out and we do wish we stayed in Wanaka itself rather than outside of it. The bed wasn't comfortable and my partner and I ended up with stiff backs at the end of our stay. Also, caution to hosts to please not leave nuts in the kitchen area as some people (like my partner!) may be anaphylaxis. There was also no smoke detector inside the property which we think may have been illegal.

The view of the snow-capped mountains, at sun set, from the spa was sensational. Cabin was cute and cosy, perfect for a romantic getaway. The outdoor shower was a rustic touch, and the pressure and warmth on a cold winter morning was the best way to start the day.

Would recommend additional towels be available.

Everything was perfect. A comfy, Cosy and warm cabin, despite it being late autumn. It was so clean and beautifully presented and I loved the little touches like the slippers and dressing gowns. The spa was hot and ready to go when we arrived. Watching the sun set and rise from the spa pool was a highlight. I really enjoyed how quiet it was, just birdsong and we really enjoyed watching the horses in the paddock at the end of the garden. Stunning.

Our cabin was clearly visible to anyone approaching from outside because floor to ceiling windows. It is a private cabin and with no one around. It was raining day so my husband and I were relaxing on the bed. Owner/Male approached saying “hello,hello”quickly and then looked in through the window to gain our Attention. He wanted to get some spa cleaning equipment. It made me feel so embarrassed. When my husband got up and went outside the bed room, he came in further on to the deck in front of o ur glass door bedroom. He apologised for his intrusion however we didn't think it was appropriate to approach the guests In that way. We would have found it more acceptable if he had called by phone beforehand. !! In addition, we add to our earlier comments that our bright red car was parked right next to the cabin.!! The man didn’t leave immediately and walked on the deck in front of glass door and picked up spa cleaning net. You have to understand what really happened.

The view was amazing! There was a hot tub on the verandah. Very rustic but comfortable. Loved it!

For a weekend getaway the room size is good, but as an international traveller there is not much room for luggage.
