Sandy Edge

Most importantly the hosts were very kind. Tishan was always checking in if we were okay and so was his uncle. We had a tasty breakfast every morning and delicious dinner in the evening. The rest of the family was also there and I've not seen a grumpy face. We really enjoyed sitting outside our bungalow and relax after a day in the sun. Comfy to read a book or just look at the birds jumping by. If you're 'lucky' you can see the water snake in the pond. We went here for the diving, there is a dive center a few hundred meters away. Saw lots of dolphins on the way to the dive site which made it a very special experience.

We had nothing to complain.

We loved the hospitality of the owner and staff, they welcomed us to their family and always helped us where they could. you could be part of community dinners in the night which was lovely. Really amazing (local or western) breakfast & food and the beach feeling at the cabins was amazing.

Because of the open beach huts there were quite a high possibility that you find mosquitoes at night and sometimes other small animals (frogs..). Don’t leave food in your cabins, then you’re fine. And bring repellent.

Calm and quiet surrounding with low facilities .

No welcome drink at least a glass of water at the arrival. we travelled for 150 km We were informed that there will be restaurants for dinner but we were helpless with four kids as there wasn't any place to eat out side. The host refused to prepare something in his kitchen but finally he bought us fried rice from out side . Morning tea was given around 8.30 am and it tasted watery. He had prepared "pol sambal" Dhal curry and bread for breakfast. It was a shame that he was not kind enough to give our four kids at least a banana. No water in the rooms that we have to go the kitchen and fetch. The host pretends to be kind but very cunning as he tried to reduce 1500.00 from my bill to remove the booking from the bookings.com which I wouldn't be able to leave this review but I refused and paid the total . I asked him whether he doesn't concern about local travelers then he gave me an answer yes . Then he should have told me about that earlier and he totally neglected our stay there. so pathetic that this is our first stay in Kalpitiya and he ruined our stay. They neglect locals.

Everything was great. The hosts were so so nice to us and helped with everything out. They asked us everyday if we are happy and how we feel, so they were very dedicated and friendly. We can definitely recommend this place and would always come back :)

Such a lovely, relaxed spot. Owner is super lovely and has great information, recommendations and tips about things to do/transport around. He's always keen to help and checks in regularly with how your stay is going. Beds were super comfortable and they also do communal dinners at night which creates a more friendly, hostel vibe among the guests which is nice. Helped us organise a dolphin cruise with some other guests and we saw over 100 dolphins which was amazing! Fairly cheap to do as well.

Breakfast wasn't the best - often cold toast and a cold omelette. Apart from this everything else was amazing and we couldn't have asked for more.

Prasanna and his nephew were lovable. He was so nice and he helped with everything! The food was also very delicious! I can highly recommend staying at Sandy Edge!

I had the most fabulous week at Sandy Edge. I truly did not want to leave. My little hut...all the staff...the location so near the beach and lagoon, yet far enough away to be quiet...the other guests (yes, maybe I was lucky but it is a sociable atmosphere - not in a party way, just friendly)...the rice n curry dinner each night...I wish I could have stayed a month. Filtered water is provided to avoid using the dreaded plastic bottles which is a welcome and thoughtful touch. Everyone from the owner to the young man, Dishan, are constantly smiling and running around attending to your every need. I don't know how they do it without burning out. It really is a home from home.

The mosquitoes are ravenous.Bring a LOT of strong repellent, could, plug-in deterrent, incense, whatever you can find, and something to put on the inevitable bites when you get them. Check your bed for the ones which sneak under the net and hide in wait. I look like a pincushion. There is quite a lot of litter on the way to, and on, the beach. It is a problem everywhere in Sro Lanka but such a pity as the beach is gorgeous. If every guest picked up two plastic bottles every time they visited the beach, or one carrier bag full of rubbish per stay, it would eventually become more manageable. Bikes are planned for guests' use which will be great. Another suggestion, which is probably also in the planning, is a comfy seating area with soft chairs or bean bags to hang out with other guests before/after dinner rather than on the hard dining chairs. Perhaps some hammocks around the place...then I really would want to stay forever, ha ha. Also, beer is currently sold but sometimes a fruit juice or soda might be nice...not necessary, but nice.

The host and his whole family were a really friendly. The way to the Beach is around 10minutes. We ate very well, always fresh cooked. Our personal bungalo was clean an quite. A big thank you from our side!
