Waterside Shepherds Hut

All round very good , if you need to get to york take the 840 or 843 bus from the a64 it's literally 2 minutes walk. Use the online live departures map to track when the bus is coming as can be every hour. Taxis are around £30 to york city centre so the bus is a great alternative. Castle howard is around 5 miles away but wouldn't recommend walking as it can be very dangerous along the roads (we did try it). Very worth the money to stay here for a more scenic trip to york 😀

The middle of nowhere location and how cosy the hut was inside. Especially the bed it was like a little hideaway and kept the warmth in. The bed was so comfy and pillows all felt brand new. Everything was made up when we arrived. Kitchenette suited our needs for the weekend and in summer would have used a bbq but otherwise used for coffee and hot chocolate. Shower worked perfectly and really liked the heated towel rail.

Quite close to the railway crossing so could hear the horns on the trains as they approached. A couple of things to improve would be the lighting down the pathway leading to the hut, it was very dark and so. E of the solar lights weren't working. Some of the bulbs inside did flicker quite a bit so might need a look as well as the fan in the bathroom. Couldn't make up it's mind if it wanted to be on or off. Also the door was a little difficult to lock and unlock.

Comfortable and fun way to spend a couple of nights while visiting York with friends for races. Rural location was quiet with good facilities hot water and heater. Owner Andrew was friendly and hospitable. Taxi into York very reasonable, so saves hassle of parking and driving.
