Waterside Shepherds Hut

Beautiful location- away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The shepherds hut is surrounded by fields and you can watch the horses and dogs from afar.

No improvements- we had a lovely stay.

The location was great for us as we visited Flamingoland and York. It was clean with easy parking. There is a bus stop very close by but it was 20 minutes late going to York and coming back it would have been a 45 minute wait so we got an Uber which cost £25.

It was too noisy for us. Other reviewers didn’t seem bothered by it but the combination of the road, train and the fridge impacted on our sleep significantly. My partner wanted to leave after the first night but he did sleep better the 2nd night. We also found that with it not being level the bathroom door closes over and bangs unless being guided and I felt off balance at times. When leaving with our luggage my partner stood in dog poo that was on the walking path from the hut, this was disgusting to clean off so be aware as the path isn’t very well lit at night.

No WiFi available at the property whatsoever for our stay! This did have a bit of an impact as we would have liked to have watched some shows at night but were unable to do so. Hosts did try to fix but were unable, unlucky I guess.

Not a lot. Wife hated it and didn’t want to return after going into York to drop a car back. It was handy to bus services into York & Leeds which ran regularly. Not much else.

To start with, we had no internet or tv. The dwelling is an old style gypsy van that was very small, was not level, no room to keep any luggage as we were travelling from overseas. Although the pictures on booking.com were actual photo’s but looks can be deceiving. The bed was no bigger than a king single and if you were 6’ or over, you would most like be touching the walls end to end.

Exactly as described and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfy, heater worked excellently and the bathroom was great. Kitchen had every amenity necessary. Everything super clean. Excellent little hut.

Quite close to the house and other cottage, so hard to forget you are in someone's garden but that obviously isn't the owners fault. Also only just off the A64 so there is traffic noise but this didn't bother us.

It is worth noting the cleanliness of the place, everything you need to prepare and eat basic things (coffee, toast), it has a microwave and a small refrigerator that is very practical as well as plates, glasses and cutlery. The kindness of those who received us and helped us was wonderful. Quiet and peaceful place. Nice views If you like to watch movies or listen to music when you are in the place, it is good that you take your computer or gadgets with you.

unfortunately, we could not sleep well. the bed was not comfortable for us despite having good pillows and duvet.
