Cold, old and that's just the property.

Large hostel, but with comfortable feel and lovely owners and staff. Clean throughout, but kitchen could do with more attention! A map was provided when we arrived. Key access to front door and room. Near to rail station (disused), walkable to many sites (inc. Pan American highway for buses to Tulcán) and less than $2 taxi to bus terminal. Good wifi/internet/network, but connection often dropped for a second or two for no apparent reason. Large kitchen, with 2 ovens (1 electric, 1 gas), each with 4 ring hobs, 2 large fridge freezers. Plenty of pots, pans and crockery. Plenty of outdoor, rooftop spaces (great views). Generally quiet, not much traffic, but the usual dogs barking. Warm enough, but with plenty of blankets for some cold nights. Hand washing sink for clothes, and plenty of drying lines. Rubbish separated into organic and other, plenty of signs asking for lights to be switched of when not in use, but no other signs for recycling. Netflix was available (with your own account), but we couldn't get it to work (internet signal not working properly). Decent sized bedroom with comfortable bed, with one bedside table and second table and chair. Plenty of hooks for coats etc. Bathroom has good hot shower (when water pressure up).

The kichen towels and cloths really needed a good wash and the whole kitchen area needs a good clean up. Limited storage in bedroom (we used the spare bed) and lighting wasn't brilliant, no bedside lamp or bin. Bathroom a little small, only cold water to sink and light not brilliant. Needs more hooks for towels. We were charged tax which we don't think we should have been, being foreigners.

Great staff. Lovely welcome. Easy to find and we could check in early. Kitchen was there if you wanted to cook but we only did breakfast as food is so cheap we like to support the locals. Decent enough hot shower but the spray head needs adjusting if replacing as it sprays out everywhere. They are going loads of renovations so in a few months there will be extra facilities. Great value for money too.

Not sure that the hostel could go anything but the dogs barking incessantly in the morning is a nightmare.

The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. They seemed to be doing some much needed renovations. The location was good for getting around Otavalo.

There is need for more renovations and updates - I believe they are currently working on this.

My room was adequate. Staff friendly and helpful
