Built within an Austro-Hungarian Fortress, this hostel is of a high standard. Shared rooms were single non-bunk beds partitioned into two sets of two with a good sized ensuite with separate toilet, shower and vanity area alongside wardrobes and lockers as-well-as a desk. The staff were excellent and secure in-house bicycle storage is free and convenient. There are also elevators. For the price paid, all was well.

Location was excellent. Hostel looked nice. Bathroom layout was highly entertaining.

Even tho hostel listed having free parking, they did not. That was our main complaint as we came with a car and a lot of luggage.

Location in historic building, the Fortress itself, the fact that it is finally normal hostel without bunk beds, excellent restaurant with affordable prices. I would deffinitely would have given it 10, but, there are few setbacks, and it is not air-condition as others complain. It is historic building, people need to keep in mind that, as everywhere in the world, such places are protected as national monument. I would do reccomend it, and I really do, the place is great for staying overnight or longer, everything is perfect, but..... except two things.

The thing which I did not like was poor-lit during night, and lack of sign in night to find hostel, and I used google which lead me to the riverbank, imagine how awful is to come at night, and google says it is there but it is nothing there, I had to call them to find them. The second thing I did not like, it says that ALL guests of the Fortress get free pass, on any official pages you can find (The Fortress, parking institution of Osijek municipality, etc), except for the hostel. The worst thing is, the fact that I did pay that parking and it was fine by me, but when I asked the next day to receive the sign which says "GUEST" the guy at the front desk mummled how they do not use it anymore (the same paper he held the night before, but I told him that I paid untill 8 in the moring the next day, which was Friday night to Saturday morning). Not only did I pay but I also got the ticket for parking, at the very moment I went to put more coins, so I was triple-charged for something I was not even supposed to pay. The fact that the night before guy was offering me that very same sign as "Guest" only to deny its very existance the next morning and to be fined with the thing I paid for.... it is beyond words. The fine is not that much, only 6 EUR as "daily ticket" but the thing I paid 1 euro the night before, put 0,60 cents for few hours more and in the end, that parking cost me 10 euros (the bank takes 1,95 euros commission when paying fine) is ... just simply no comment. If I am entitled to have parking free as paying guest for accomodation inside the Fortress, if I am paying turistic tax, if everything is correct from my part as guest, and paid for it is not justified to "play dead" if I ask for free parking guest sign, and clam you do not use it anymore, if I saw the very same sign night before in very hands of receptionist. I will definitely complain to Parking community institution as well as the hostel management.
