Montaña Linda Hostel Orosi

We stayed in the Guest House, a separate building from the hostel. Quiet and comfortable. Very clean. Private bathroom and shared kitchen. Staff were friendly and helpful. Orosi is a lovely area - we wished we had more time there.

Only downside was the walls between rooms are thin and activity in adjoining rooms are easily overheard.

Our upstairs room was nice. We visited the thermal spas and the valley was nice. Our room and bathroom were clean

We have visited lots of hostels in Costa Rica and this was the worst. Apart from our room and bathroom this hostel is absolutely filthy. Cigarette ash trays overflowing for days. Filthy tables with dust on them. The kitchen needed a complete clean. The fridge has lots of dead fly's in it. There was dog poo in the garden which had clearly been there for days. This hostel was overpriced for the quality.

Lovely owner Sarah who has a well run, eclectic, visually pleasant, and excellently organized hostel. We booked room 12 which had a private bedroom, bathroom, and to our delight a living room and kitchen as well which was great to use!! The location is good as it is only a short walk to restaurants, cafe, supermarket etc. There are two really nice places to eat within a block - Italian pizza place with artisanal beers and Chengko’s who have vegan options on their menu. Sarah has detailed binders of information on things to do in the area and other practical info like bus schedules etc which was really wonderful!! The room itself was clean, a little on the dark side but it is downstairs so that is to be expected. There are friendly cats about (which I liked). The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to prepare and eat meals and there are baskets to put your food with clearly marked room numbers on each one. Sarah provides ground coffee and tea so you can make these in the morning. Overall we had a lovely stay here.

The bed. It has gone beyond its functional life and now just makes the sleeper uncomfortable with sagging and springs you can feel with every part of you. I had to use the extra blankets to lie on to make it softer. Some noise late at night (people talking and thumps from upstairs), but it’s a hostel so just use ear plugs. Someone smoking late at night and the smell of smoke coming in the room. In this day and age just make everywhere in and around the hostel no smoking.

I love the stay in Montana Linda . It always peaceful, comparable and fun. About Orosi : it is the best landscape option from San Jose to a fresh air , natural , exploration place .

The hostel is very cute, full of plants, including a cocoa tree. The host was very nice and the cats in the property are very lovely. I felt very homey. The location is very convenient, walking distance from the restaurants around the main street. I really loved my stay and felt relaxed and calm in the hostel atmosphere. Great pricing.

Having the entire place to ourselves provided a unique sense of privacy and exclusivity during the stay, which is often a rare luxury in any accommodation. This aspect allowed for a more personal and uninterrupted experience, offering a peaceful retreat from the usual bustling atmosphere of a hostel.

The maintenance and cleanliness could be significantly improved. The presence of mess from previous guests and the main kitchen being out of service, replaced by a less functional temporary setup, detracted from the overall comfort and convenience. Additionally, the malfunctioning microwave oven limited meal preparation options. Addressing the issue of cat hair and restricting cat access to common and private areas is crucial, especially for guests with allergies. Ensuring that the animals are less intrusive and providing clearer guidelines for interacting with guests could also enhance the stay for everyone.
