Wake Up Weligama

Nice vibe and the owner was really nice and helpful and made me feel very welcome!

The bathroom and kitchen were not very clean and the sink and the shower was clogged the whole time I was there - maybe no one mentioned it but it should have been clear when they cleaned in the morning. Also the dorm I stayed in was incredibly hot. The top bunk mosquito net was also too low, so that mosquitoes could still harass me on my feet.

Wake Up Hostel was my favourite Hostel in Sri Lanka so far. The social vibe is great and you can easily get to know new people. There is social activities every day, the location is 5 minutes from the beach and it's a bit off of the main road so you don't here the traffic. In addition the Host is super cool and takes part in most hostel activities. The dorm room was spacy, clean and there was a wooden Box to store your important stuff. If you want to to experience something you should definitely go here.

Really nice vibe! We had a double private room which was pretty comfortable with a big fan and a bit far from the dorms and the common area! Which is good if you want to relax but you are not so included in the group of the rest of the travellers! However the host providing information of everything about food and events around Shiah is really nice.

We had to pay for the water machine to full our bottles!

The owner mahesh is a fantastic person always coming up with various different activities for people to join. The general vibe was heart warming, the chillout area is nice and cozy and the people staying there were fantastic. Booked for a few nights but ended up staying for almost two weeks. Can recommend this place for all the nice people out there!

We had a very nice stay. The bedroom was very wide, bright and clean! The mattress was very comfortable and very big, we slept very well. The room and the area around were very quiet. The staff were very kind and helpful!

The WiFi definitely to implement. Not working at all in our bedroom.

The location was very nice (lika 5 minutes walking from the beach) and Mahesh the host was always inviting everybody to do activities together, making conveesation to everyone, and even had some vip discounts for parties haha. He arranges a whatsapp group where guests of the hostel make plans, order takeout food together, and sometimes organize trips nearby. We would totally recommend it for solo travelers , specially of they are planning to stay for a while in Weligama and hope to make some friends. For couples, if you are in it for the vibe I would suggest maybe sleep in the common rooms rather than the private ones (they are far apart)

The private rooms are a bit far from the common places of the hostel (like 2-3 minutes walking), which is nice for the privacy, but we never got to use the common areas a in was a bit awkard for us to go to the main place and mingle with the whole group (all though mahesh was welcoming). We were expecting a nicer vibe but i guess if you sleep there with everyone yoj will get that for sure. The place of the private rooms was really clean (the common places of the hostel are quite messy hahaha but i guess thats just the backpackers style?) But our bathroom could use some work. The cover of the wc was broken. There is no air conditioning, just a fan that is quite noisy. We had earplugs and were fine. Also would be ice to have a rack or a helf or anything simple to put your stuff in not having your backpacks and clothes spread all over the floor with the sand and water.

This was one of my best experiences in Sri Lanka. I think that accommodation here is ideal for everyone, especially solo travelers who want to meet people on the same page. The owner of the hostel, Mahesh, is a hard working nice guy who helped me with everything I needed. I loved that we’ve spent a lot of time together with the other guests. We were surfing, going for breakfasts, ice bathing, partying, just chilling and enjoying together. This place really made me feel like i am part of a wakeup family! The chill zone upstairs of the hostel was my favourite place to be and to hang out. I will surely come back one day when I’m in Sri lanka.

The vibes, the manager, the location. Mahesh is in charge of the big family that every day changes a bit as new people come and others leave. The vibes there are awesome (chill area, planned activities almost everyday, best kombucha ever homemade by Mahesh…). And P.S. Weligama is the best surf spot

The owner tried to push me four times into changing my booking so he did not need to pay for the booking fee. I understand that he wants that, however it made me feel very uncomfortable. The place was also not clean, was cleaned once over three weeks on my own request. I am happy with the other travellers I met, that was great! But there are some improvements possible. Dogs are that are part of the place are barking every night. Keep in mind to bring earplugs
