Wake Up Weligama

The hostel is very welcoming and social, running events and making sure everyone is included. Close to the beach and nice cafes. Really enjoyed my stay here and wish I could have been there longer!

The owner puts most of his effort into making sure the vibe is lively, and he succeeds. This place attracts a lot of fun-loving people and is a good place to meet other travelers. The wifi was also good.

There were four fans in the room, one for every two beds. The fan next to my bed was broken and I spent the night tossing and turning. The bed was rough. Bad sleep. The only bathroom in the hostel is in the 8-bed dorm, so there were people coming in and out all day and night long. The manager was an absentee. I saw multiple people arrive at around three, who had to wait four hours or more to check in because he had disappeared. Conditions were kind of gross and could easily be improved with a little elbow grease.

Staying in this hostel was like being part of a family for a few days. Mahesh, the owner, is a very friendly and social guy who makes such an effort to make everyone feel welcome. He was kind enough to let me store my luggage in the hostel and even use the shower after I checked out! There are family dinners almost every night and other social activities run by the hostel e.g. nights out. When I arrived in my dorm the fan was broken however Mahesh quickly resolved this. Mosquito nets on the beds were a big bonus! It was also great having a kitchen area to make hot drinks etc. Good location only 10/15 mins from Weligama beach, lots of restaurants nearby.

Mahesh is the best host on earth!!!! He’s making different activities every day, you’ll never get bored there. This was my first ever hostel trip and it was perfect. Now my hostel expectations are too high for the rest of my life. These place feels like home and I returned there every day even after I left Weligama. Can’t wait to come back ❤️

I didn’t like that I had to leave Sri Lanka

This hostel is a great spot for solo travelers or friends, who have time and are down to have fun at Weligama. The atmosphere with the other travelers is great and the host organises a lot of fun activities. It has an aesthetic and is excellenty located, in a calm area but very close to the beach. Would definitely recommend for any traveller!

Small hostel with a cozy atmosphere. The beds were super comfy and every bed has its own fan. Also every dormroom has its own bathroom. The host organizes group activities every other night.

The common sitting area was a bit grimmy and also the kitchen could have been cleaner.

Hostel feels like home. It's definitely not a fancy one. Mahesh - the owner, is kinda like a granny who takes care of you, organises everything, cheers u up and makes u feel cozy. Hostel is v basic, although after booking for 1 night you'll probably end up staying 3 weeks. Cheers & cya there in 2024;]
