Muru's Place

The lady that keeps the house is so warm and welcoming. She made us feel like at home, offering us a much needed and delicious homemade juice after several hours of travelling. Everything was clean and tidy. A very nice experience staying at Muru's place. We will return! 😁

While staying at this place, €1300 euros went missing from the inside pocket of our backpack while we were out. The room was locked by the lock the provided and the backpack was inside. There was no other guest but us. The only people at the house was the lady host and her family. After realising we searched everywhere and the money didn’t show up. We let the lady know and she assured us nobody went in the house during the day. She told us she had an extra key of the lock hidden in the closet from her family. After we left the place and the initial shock worn down, we realised she didn’t do much to help. She didn’t offer to call the police or search. After we left she didn’t send a message to follow up after the room cleaning, etc. The only thing is that she suggested we wouldn’t have to pay for the 2 nights we stayed. But after she didn’t bring it up again and so we ended up paying. Her main focus was for us not to leave a bad review. We honestly could have fought more, but were so overwhelmed but the situation that just wanted to leave the place. We don’t want to blame the lady but the fact is the door was closed and the money went missing and she had access to the key.

Lovely attentive family. Made you feel at home. Place is a little far from rest of main hub but its five minutes walk to blue beach island which is the best. I really enjoyed sitting around eating peanuts with my host and her daughters at night.

The lady that hosted us was very friendly and welcomed us with an amazing papaya juice :D We had our privacy upstairs and had a nice kitchen with dining area and a terrace to relax. The neighbourhood was nice and quiet with a 5 minute walk to Blue Beach and 10 - 15 minutes away from Hirikiteya Beach. Recommended if you are travelling on a budget!

Had the loveliest stay here. Was beautifully welcomed with a delicious smoothie on the balcony. Was a perfect spot with a short walk to hiriketiya and the beaches. Also was able to rent a scooter from the property right away which was super handy. The bunk beds are double beds and very comfy with an ensuite so felt like luxury :)

Great stay, felt a lot more local than the busy main area. recommend getting a scooter if you’re not keen on walking the 10-15minutes to the main beach, but it was worth it for the hospitality! Felt like I was part of a little family. Met two different people who had been here years before and loved it so much they came back. I can see why, I would also return again!

Loved every part! It’s definitely not luxury stay, but if you’re a budget traveler who prefers authentic experiences, it’s amazing

Where do I start? I came here for two nights and stayed nearly a month. I plan to come back it was such a heart warming experience. It was truly my pleasure to have had the opportunity to stay at Muru's place. Actually, its taken me some time just to find the correct words to share as feeling of the wonderful stay here lives in my heart and isn't so easy to put to words. The owner: The owner keeps the accommodation clean, she is almost always around if something comes up, she goes out of her way to support each guest, and above all else my experience is that her and her family are lovely caring people. Things I would never of expected a home stay owner to she with she did and really helped me out in many ways :). The accommodation/area: Truly my favorite area in Sri Lanka so far. In a wonderful and green area just on the periphery and easily walk-able to Hiriketya beach (15-20 mins walk) and very close to Blue Beach (5 min walk). The perfect balance between local and tourist amenities. Local market and restaurants a few steps away (much cheaper than Hiri and delicious). The area is quiet, friendly and feels very safe. The rooms are spacious and well done- the beds are huge -even in the dorm. There is a near full kitchen (stove top) and fridge/freezer. Mosquito nets and wifi are great. Upstairs there is a beautiful patio area and in the main area by the kitchen a large kitchen table. The roof is also pitched and so the space feels very large and warm- a really great balance to have a nice place to have a coffee in the am or sit down for a nice meal.
