Don Som Riverside Guesthouse

The real rural experience. loved our stay here and walking around this unspoiled island gives you a real taste of local life. Accommodation was great, chilling in the hammock overlooking the Mekong was lovely. The owners were fantastically helpful and caring. food was great too 😃

A place like Don Som riverside guesthouse is probably what you dream of when you think about visiting an island in the middle of the Mekong! The expression "off the beaten path" doesn't even make it justice. Away from the tourist trail and nestled between small villages in the island of Don Som, it gives you the chance to get the true local Lao experience. This is truly a hidden gem. The friendliness, hospitality and generosity of the owners, Sander and Tanoi, are comparable to none. They really do make you feel at home. They took good care of us made our stay at their place an unforgettable experience.  Besides that, what we appreciated the most was how environmentally-conscious they are and how little their footprint and impact on the island are.  All of this adds to the feeling of ease and peace that washes upon you once you set foot on the island.  We would definitely visit Don Som there again if we ever get the chance to visit Lao in the future.
