Hostel Clandestino Maderas

Where to start? Location, facilities, kitchen, vibe, surrounding nature... We could have not dreamt of a better place to get stranded. Sure, the way up to the hostel is steep and rocky, but so is life and you will be rewarded by a fresh breeze, likeminded people and the friendliest staff on earth (s/o to Philipp, Diego and Larissa). Whether you surf or not, you will enjoy your time as the team and fellow travellers organise regular events. We'll be back soon.

This hostel is a hidden gem in paradise. As soon as I got here I felt immediately relaxed. You feel in touch with nature. The room is very cozy as well and not too hot at night. Also, it’s really close to playa maderas.

There was some dust on the room itself, especially the windows and the fans

My stay at the Clandestino hostel was incredible - The hostel has a beautiful and homely atmosphere and Philip, Diego and Larry did everything to make us guests feel welcome. Great location for surfing and spending quality time.

Incredible location with lots of nature around

There’s no really options for food. It would be great to be alerted before getting there to bring food. We did not like the surf instructor that was recommended as he didn’t really listen to us and was trying to continuously upsell even though he did not meet even the basic requirements

Nature

Dorms too small. Upper bunk has no place to put things near the bed.

Really cool hostel in the middle of the jungle! Great comfortable rooms with little bugs. Shower and toilet also in middle of jungle but very clean. Kitchen with beautiful view also clean.

Location was amazing, but be aware there is nog much in the area. Bring your own breakfast and dinner!

My partner and I stayed in the Duplex studio while staying at Hostel Clandestino and let me tell you, it was freaking fantastic! We had two nights booked and push back our plans back by one day so we could stay a third, we’d stay longer if we could, we are in love. We did keep to ourselves a bit as it was our surfing and decompression time from our past weeks but it seems that that hostel is not only great for relaxing but for social life too. Nice common area people seem to mingle, and a cool outdoor kitchen by a skate bowl where they had a BBQ and some music and hangs around yesterday, and it wasn’t too noisy or anything, sounded like a good time! The shared kitchen and washrooms seems clean and beautiful…. Though we didn’t use those cause we had our own!! It was sooo nice to have our own kitchen, fridge, and washrooms what a treat! The studio is the best experience we’ve have had yet on my stay in Nicaragua, so beautiful, peaceful and everything you need, including the cutest little black kitty cat that you can’t get enough of! Highly recommended spoiling yourselves for a few days, and for having pretty much your own tiny home (that is adorable) surrounded by nature, it is very fairly priced! Maderas beach is like a 5 minute walk for your beach chills and surfing needs…also no more then 10 minute walk to some hostel restaurant’s or beach food if you don’t have food to cook as Clandestino doesn’t have a restaurant or bar. We will defiantly return to this little slice of paradise if we get the chance to in the future. Thank you! Xx

The road up is pretty steep and rough, we took our Navi scooters up and down several times and survived, but wouldn’t recommend it if your not comfortable on a Moto, the way down is sketchier… take my word for it lol and if your walking, well you just get some extra exercise tehe it’s good for you ;)

The place is nicely decorated and offers common areas to chill. The room is nice and simple. The shared bathrooms and showers were clean.

The shared kitchen is only cleaned in the early morning, so that during the day it might be dirty and full of ants. Depending on the amount of guests, the fridge and cooking areas are not sufficient. No laundry service is offered at the property. The most nearby place to do so is a 20 min walk. Be aware that it's a steep dirt road from the drop-off of the shuttle until the hostel.
