El Sunset Hostel

Host is pretty relaxed and helpful. I sleeped well. The place was quite and far from the busy area which in my case was good to have a good night sleep.

I was most of the time in the malecon so it was 35 min walk or 10 mins by bus which is not too bad. At night time you will have to rely on taxi or uber.

It’s a relaxed environment and everyone is nice and considerate of each other. There’s hot water in the shower, a kitchen, jugs of water so that you never need to use the tap, make a coffee whenever you want and the internet has speeds over 100 megabytes per second. There’s 5 space to hangout, so you could hangout as a group or go to a different space if you need to take a call or time for yourself. The host is very nice and lets people do what they want so long as people are considerate of the other guests. The door is red and says hostel, with the number of the building clearly indicated beside the door.

Marco and his dog are really lovely hosts. The sheets are clean and smell good. The hostel is only a few blocks from a pretty quiet beach in the hostel zone, and there are some excellent local and more touristy restaurants really nearby. Whilst I was there, Marco was busy adding furniture to the common areas, and making it even more comfortable and suitable for meeting other backpackers. The bed in the female dorm is comfortable, and has its own fan. I had a great time here, but I can see how much potential the hostel has with a bit of sprucing up and extra cleaning.

It could definitely do with being quite a bit cleaner, although Marco says he is going to employ a cleaner soon. Hopefully he will do this sooner rather than later, because at the moment, I think how clean it is depends on how good the current volunteers are (and he has 3 brilliant ones at the moment). It all needs a bit of tlc, but I think he is planning on painting a few things and making it look good again. The beds could easily have privacy curtains added to them, and there definitely needs to be more power outlets/extension leads in the dorm. My pillow had split open and the stuffing was coming out, but the other one that was spare was incredibly stained. The fitted sheet for my mattress was fully ripped open on two corners, so the sheets and pillows could do with replacing.

Great hostel

Marco is great! Nice guy. Full of all the answers to the questions I had. Grateful for his kindness. Quiet location. Not in the middle of the busy city center but easy to access from local buses and everything you need is just a few steps away. Can recommend!

Room is what you would expect for the price. Great Host. Convenient location.

Female dorm room is spacious with natural light and fresh air, there are fans for each bed and electrical sockets to charge your cel phone, the beds are very comfortable. Extremely spacious and relaxing outdoor spaces/terraces where you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee or chat with other travellers The hostel is quiet and peaceful yet close to many bars, restaurants and cafes and is a 5 minute walk to the nearest beach. Vikingo (the hostel dog) is just so sweet and adorable. I loved staying at this hostel.
