Lords Central Hotel

The hotel is nice. The staff is very humble and nice. The food is good. Over all the stay for one night was nice. The view from the room was very nice in the morning and evening.

There is heater for bathing all day. Hot water was available only from morning 7 to 10 for 3 to 4 hours.

Amazing views from the pool. The charm of old world hospitality. Peaceful and quiet.

Not having hot water for bath when you need it.

The location is by far the best part.

The toilet facilities are outdated and lack supplies like soap and shampoo.

Very old property which is ok, but, old furniture/ interior does not give comfort to eyes.

The location is par excellent. Close enough to the center, but removed from the noise and crowds. We booked a more expensive room overlooking the pool and Eastern mountains, the scene that greeted us from room, no. 7 was simply superb, affording views of the sunrise and the valley. The pool was well maintained and clean, and it was the highlight of our stay. The hotel staff was friendly, courteous and helpful at all times. In my perspective, these alone make staying at Lords Central worth it. The property itself is quite beautiful. The main bungalow has a quaint, and well stocked library, and albeit a bit dusty. We did jitnget time to read, but there were some excellent books. I was particularly enamoured by the magnificent dining hall with a huge map of Matheran. It was neatly laid out and clean.

Here's the big downer. Basic amenities were missing. There was no water heating kettle in the room for hot water or tea, which normally is a given at these prices. The room itself was large and relatively clean, but rather unkempt.and generally rundown. Cracks on various walls, chipped tiles in the bathroom, formica panels that that warped, and bare bulbs with no lampshades. Being an old property does not excuse it from not having basic maintenence. Also, no geyser, so the hot water is not available 24/7 in the bathroom. For me, the vinyl flooring that is supposed to look like wood was also something I disliked. I would have prefered cheap flooring tiles to that. The tiny window air conditioning was not large enough for the room and was terribly, terribly noisy, buzzing so loudly that I woke up in the middle of the night on several ocassions to switch it off. For the price paid, I would have expected more. The complimentary breakfast was woefully inadequate in the number items served. Toast, eggs to order, and one other vegetarian dish. While this may be generally suitable for some, many will want a few more options. In my opinion, the per head tariffs for lunch and dinner were also just too high for what was being served. We found it much better to have our meals in tbe main market. Luckily there are many options in the market, but it is far from ideal to step out like that for meal.
