Position of the property and the friendly staff!

Rooms are very old and dated

Our Salt Rock check in was welcoming and the location was perfect, steps just outside our very large terrace leading virtually straight onto the beach and the tidal pool close by. Travelling with our two older kids we had a spacious family room, with a screen dividing the area which worked well. There was a fridge which was handy and a kettle to make drinks although the selection was a bit mean. The breakfast was good, a decent choice of things available, although could have done with a more exotic fruit platter, apple is a bit boring! We had dinner on the outside restaurant terraces, which was lovely, all lit up with fairy lights & the sound of the sea, food was great. The hotel pool was great to chill out by and the service excellent, good lunch menu and delicious smoothies.

The Salt Rock obviously trades on its location and its 1930's colonial seaside vibe, but to be honest, the room felt pretty dated and in need of a refresh for the rate we were paying. The hotel corridors leading to the rooms were quite dark and damp, it felt like you were going somewhere municipal. The terrace outside our room, was huge with fabulous sea views, but it needed some kind of shade and nicer seating (plastic chairs!) as it was too hot to sit out on.

Obviously location is superb.

Rooms have plenty of stairs going DOWN. The further down the flight of stairs the less beach view and no lifts/escalators as an alternative for that many stairs. I think I was located at one of the least preferred rooms.

Location was excellent

Décor in rooms extremely dated. No air-conditioning in rooms. We waited extremely long at the restaurant to order and be served the first night and even gave it another chance again but the second night we got up and went elsewhere for dinner as no-one was taking our order
