Windermere River Lodge is a beautifully designed hotel set in a stunning location beside the river Periyar. With only 5 rooms it feels like you are a guest in someone’s dream home . The staff are friendly and helpful and include a naturalist who will guide you through the surrounding countryside.The facilities are excellent with a pool, changing area and dining pavilion a short walk through stunning gardens and close to the river where you can while away the afternoon under the shade of matures trees that border the rivers edge.

Our stay at the River House was magical. The staff at location are the most welcoming and wonderful. Location is beautiful and serene. We arrived just in time for a sunset in the jungle, the birds were so loud in the best possible way. The staff also cooks local meals in the restaurant and the amount and variety of the food is impressive. We got to taste so many Keralan specialities during our few night stay. The property offered a morning walking tour in the village with a local guide showing us all kinds of spice plants and small local farms, which was a great experience. In addition the staff at front desk organised a driver for us and pretty much came up with an itinerary for a spontaneous trip to Munnar. The help was much appreciated and we ended having a fun day trip around the area with a taxi driver who also ended up driving to our next destination.

We absolutely loved our stay at the River House. It is in a beautiful, peaceful setting, with a large pool overlooking the river. Lovely gardens, birds everywhere, delicious food cooked to order. And the nicest, most accommodating staff, the hospitality here is exceptional. I would love to return and stay longer.

Exquisite design, extensive lovely gardens, and superbly peaceful riverside location are strong attractions at this lovingly tended 5 room estate property! The staff are universally friendly and most helpful with logistics. The pool is a great plus too! The food was plentiful and varied, warmly served in a lovely open air pavilion. I highly recommend a visit to the peaceful nearby town for a complimentary birding walk. Birding further afield can also be arranged and was very enjoyable. Stay several days to soak up the tranquil atmosphere!

Absolutely nothing!

It’s an incredible place, a small piece of paradise and certainly the most beautiful property we stayed in India during our stay. The manager of the hotel is very helpful and kind. The birding tour is a highlight and the birding guide is very knowledgeable.

The staff were absolutely incredible and could not have done more to make us feel welcome. They were also extremely knowledgeable about the local area and keen to share this with us. The nature walk was enjoyable and informative and we would really recommend our excellent guide provided by the hotel. Finally when we left we were treated to an added benefit of a close up encounter with an elephant. We really could not have asked for me.

This was a totally luxurious experience. The facilities were just beautiful - from the room and balcony in the main house to the stunning gardens to the swimming pool and restaurant down by the river. The food we were treated to was probably the best we had in our entire 3 weeks in Kerala. John, the manager and a super lovely and gracious man, looked after us in every respect. If you are looking for a break in a peaceful place, this is it. I thought it was superb value for money and would stay again in a heartbeat.
