Avila's Horizon Dive Resort Malapascua

Location is on a beautiful beach! The staff were exceptional, so friendly and attentive. The dives were fantastic, especially the shark dive.

It's a little far to get to but so worth it.

The best thing about this hotel is location - it's right on the beautiful beach with white sand, on the quiet side of the island. Perfect for relaxing. They have dive center at the hotel so it makes it very easy to go diving. Breakfast is included. Nothing spectacular but it's there if you want it. The manager of the hotel Jessica is a very nice lady - she accommodated all my requests about diving and generally was very lovely and helpful.

The facilities are rather basic and generally not thought through. I had a lamp on a bedside table and no power point to plug it in. There were cups and instant coffee but no kettle. No fridge which is not unique to this particular hotel but surprises me every time in Asia. With those temperatures fridge is a must really. A double bed was two single beds jammed together. With a nice big gap in the middle. The location is beautiful but there is unbelievable amount of trash in the water. You have to watch your step otherwise you're guaranteed to step on something unpleasant. The staff doesn't seem to do anything about it. I know it might not be in their job description but it affects the overall impression. Diving experience was rather nice however it is more expensive than other places. I went for it for convenience but it is something to be considered. Also there was an undergoing renovation at the time of my stay, and they didn't inform me about that beforehand. It wouldn't change my plans but it's a courtesy thing.

Rodzinna atmosfera, cisza, spokój

It’s been week since I’ve checked out and had some time to think about it. First of all the beach it’s the most beautiful on the island, the water is clear, there is no garbage in front of the sunbeds but when you walk left or right about 5 minutes by foot there is garbage. It’s really sad that people do not respect nature there :( I had deluxe room it was clean expect for towels, had some stains on them. The rest of the room was okay, basic type. The owner - Jessica was very nice, always asks about your day, smiles a lot, really lovely lady. She’ve organised us private taxi from airport to maya port and always really quickly was responding formy messages! The food at the restaurant it’s delicious. Most of the staff are really nice and very kind. Especially the young lady who did our check in and the waitress who was singing karaoke with me! Their smiles and energies are keeping the atmosphere in the resort :)

The downs of the stay: 1. You get one bottle of free water 1L everyday for room. Of course it’s not enough when there are 2 people and it’s 30 degrees. They have automat to refill your bottle with drinkable water but it doesn’t work so in the evening when I was thirsty I needed to pay 70 pesos for bottled water that wasn’t cool. 2. On the first day we’ve ordered a dinner, then after 10-15 minutes the owner came and sat the table next to us. After another 20 minutes of waiting, the owner was served dinner while we were still waiting, we have to wait again another 10 minutes for our order to came. It was disrespectful for me as a guess. Need to say that we were the only guest at the restaurant when it was happening. ( food was delicious, the cocktails not so much to little ice, so they were warm) 3. On the last day I was enjoying beach under the umbrella. Around 1pm the one lady from the staff came and said that she had to take my umbrella cause there was a wind. The wind was delicate breeze, it couldn’t do any harm to umbrella. It was really weird situation.

Empecemos con que yo fui en una situación especial tras los terremotos. Y les pedí que si podían ser mas flexibles y permitirme cambiar mis fechas e irme un día antes ya que mi vuelo no lo iba a poder alcanzar debido al nuevo estado de las carretareras y el trafico debido a los camiones llevando ayuda. Como compensación…iba a reservar todos mis buceos con ellos, y me dijeron que no…que al ser booking que no. (Vamos que no quisieron, porque poder se puede ya que tuve una situación parecida hace años en Brasil) por lo que porder se puede. Sus palabras fueron, te vas antes pero no te devolvemos el dinero de esa noche. Y su oferta fue organizarme un transporte privado por casi 100 euros!! Si no quería perder el dinero de ese día!! Seguimos por que esta aislado en el norte, donde no hay absolutamente nada. Que algunos lo verán bien, royo aislamiento o tranquilidad. Al final estas lejos de todos los bares, restaurantes, lejos de lo animado de la isla. Al estar aislado todo cuesta tres veces mas. La comida es tres veces mas cara, el buceo es tres veces mas caro. Para ir a la ciudad depende de motos de locales en el que siempre hay alguna excusa para cobrarte 100 pesos por un viaje de 8mim! O es muy temprano, o es muy tarde… La comida…no es la mejor que van a probar. Calidad básica. Son mil y un camareros y aun así entre entrante y plato tardan como 30-45 min. Vaya que haces la digestion. Y si te apetece un postre…se olvidan de ti hasta que te cansas de esperar y pasas del postre. El desayuno tienes que elegir entre zumo o cafe instantaneo…le dije que si podía coger las dos opciones (ya que el primer día con el buceo no pude desayunar y el último día al final lo pierdo…puesto que son dos desayunos menos entonces) y me dijeron que no a un café instantaneo!! No limpiaron la habitación ni un día. Se venden como resort y las instalaciones son bastante mediocres. Mi recomendación, visitar esa playa sí! Alojarse en este hotel no!
