Everithing was perfect

Our little cottage was adorable. Staff member Adrana was fluent in English, sweet, and very helpful. Our dinner at their friend Viorica was absolutely delicious and a real highlight. The cottage was well-stocked for us to make our own breakfast. The grounds are peaceful and lovely.

The narrow and steep staircase would be a problem for someone with mobility issues and also difficult to carry luggage up. We chose to leave our luggage downstairs.

This place is magical and I absolutely loved everything about my 4 day 3 night stay here. After a couple of years of international travel , this stay was hands down my favorite. A great spot to explore Maramures, which is a beautiful mostly undiscovered part of the world . It’s almost the place time forgot in all the good ways . Penelope , the owner, and Andrada made sure I was well taken care of and quickly plugged me in to the amazing culture and the best things I wanted to do. The lifestyles of the locals are fascinating . Dinner at Viorica’s house was delicious and the conversation with other guests delightful as a hummingbird moth darted around the flowers. My cabin was comfortable and well supplied with quality breakfast supplies . The stream by my cabin was babbling in the background. Penelope introduced me to the best guide I have ever had . Greg Helm(greghelmtransylvania@gmail.com) knows everything about Romania and I wish I had contacted him prior to my trip. I’m a curious person and he answered everything. He is an expert horseman, too. We even walked across the Ukraine border for lunch! 3 guests Penelope, Greg and I went up in the beautiful hills off the grid to spend time with the shepherds as they milked their 350 sheep and saw their 15 plus dogs interact. I also drove up to the Happy Cemetery in Sapanta. What a wonderful overall experience and what a place to visit !! If you want Starbucks for breakfast and McDonalds for lunch Maramures and the village hotel aren’t for you . If you want to see a unique wonderful part of the world, stay here please . And the fresh produce . The tastiest tomatoes in the world!

Our 2 nights stay at Penelope's Village Hotel was one of our all time favorite experiences. Next time we'll book more than 3 nights to get to enjoy the village and the fabulous surroundings in Maramures. We stayed in Casa Mica that is superbly restored and is equipped with everything you need. You have vegetables, eggs, milk, butter, bread and cheese to make your own breakfast. We spent the evenings enjoying the fire pit, listening to the fire cracking and to the sounds of the nature. Penny, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for having created this wonderful place, for working so hard to keep the traditional values, for being a wonderful host. we can't wait to return!
