Kenttäniemi Cottages

The location was amazing, ideal to see the northern lights if there is activity. The cottage very cosy, warm and welcoming. Perfect to relax for a few days.

Location stunning! Peaceful & tranquil. Perfect base for visiting all the family as we do every year! Cottage was smaller than it looked in photos. Fire was a lovely cosy addition. Bed was a mattress on floor upstairs, comfortable for me but himself being taller found it a struggle to get comfortable so slept on sofa downstairs. We like our own space but perfect for those who don't mind being on top of each other. Going outside in middle of night to bathroom not ideal in the cold, easier in Summer i'd guess. Key was accessible. We cleaned up rather than pay the fee, it took 20 mins. Finland is in my genes & in my heart & it was only property in area available for our dates, our favourite Bears Lodge was fully booked up since our stay year previously. It was clean & we weren't disturbed. Guy ploughed snow every day. Wood stack was plenty. Sauna .. fabulous..a must in Finland & now we are building ourselves one here in Ireland!

Everything was absolutely perfect! The location is gorgeous if you’re looking for a quiet place to stay. All the facilities were good, the sauna was clean and perfect for relaxing after a day in the cold weather. The place it’s very warm and you have a beautiful view on the lake and the pine forest. 10 out of 10, we really enjoyed the stay!

Fairy tale Location, the snow made it look like a movie. 40 minutes from Rovaniemi center, but it is absolutely worth the travel. Walking distance, there is a raindeer farm and a husky sleight attraction.

Surprise about the bathroom not inside the cottage. While I understand that the sauna causes a lot of steam and would be inconvenient to have it in the room, it was not practical to go in the other room passing from outside, as it was -20°.

Absolutely amazing time with my little one. Santa village is a 45 minute drive away but perfect to catch the Northern lights and be in nature.

We loved our stay in the little chalet. The accomodation is so far outside the city it is very remote and peaceful. There was total silence at night, surrounded by snow and the frozen lake. The sauna was easy to use and a great way to relax. The hot water was instant and the shower was very good. There were plenty of utensils for the small kitchen. The chalet is quite small with a steep ladder to the loft for sleeping, but we really enjoyed this element. The floor mattresses were comfortable and there was enough bedding to keep warm. The fire place was a real bonus. Easy to use and added that bit of warmth and cosiness to the underfloor heating and radiator. It reached below -35°c while we were there but the chalet remained warm at all times. As the fireplace is closed you don't have to worry about getting smokey. The sofa is comfortable and opens out into a sofa bed if you want to relax a little more. There is an outbuilding for you to replenish your logs which also has a BBQ for open fire cooking. It also has lots of seating and a kettle. There was plenty of space to park the car outside the cabin. The hospitality was wonderful. The chalet was decorated with a few Christmas ornaments, and communication before our arrival was excellent. Sanna provided us with a list of recommended shops, restaurants and attractions, all with the distance to the chalet. The supermarket she suggested was fantastic and stocked with anything you could wish for. As it was so far from the Chalet we did our main shop there before arriving. Sanna's family also own a reindeer farm and we were able to book a visit to feed them, transported by snow mobile! There are hundreds of reindeer. We then had coffee and traditional buns in the shop where we were able to buy a delicious reindeer soup. It was also great talking to Jussi and finding more out about Finland. Finally, a trip to Finland would not be complete without a chance to see the Northern Lights.

With no WiFi we did have a bit of an issue with signal when needing to communicate, but we always had access at least twice a day.  It's worth noting that there is no oven, so if you're planning on doing a lot of cooking, buy food that can be cooked on the hob or in the microwave.  The bathroom has to be accessed via another door outside the chalet. This was not an issue for us, just be prepared to get a little chilly for a few seconds in the winter.
