"Great place to explore from"

9.0

I love the location, surrounded by nature by a lively stream, in the heart of the moor. The cabin was nicely set up, very welcoming and well designed with a small bathroom and kitchen. And very comfy beds. We got to cook our own food for breakfast and warm the place by making fire in the small stove( a bit of a learning curve).

I wish we were warned to bring towels With us. I understand it's obvious if you decide to camp, but I expected them for a place with a private bathroom

"Very good"

Reasonably priced and very peaceful. Parking was good.

Could have done with a small welcome pack such as some milk. The shop was within driving distance but it meant I had to go back out as soon as I arrived.

Perhaps an ‘under light’ in the cooking area would be useful 😊

"Great for a break from technology"

9.0

Clean and comfortable, great to be out of contact. All the basic kitchenware provided. Loved the open fire, even used it to cook. Loved the tranquility in the evening.

Getting there along the very narrow lanes. Thankfully did not meet any oncoming traffic to often.

"Amazing stay"

10.0

The facilities in Herdwick are amazing and the location is beautiful. We came during off season so I imagine it was a lot quieter than it would be in the summer, we were sharing the grounds with only three other people. The en suite shower was surprisingly good (you don't expect a camp shower to be warm and good pressure, let alone in the comfort of your hut). The beds were super comfy, the kitchen equipment was everything we needed and the log fire was so nice and heated the hut up in no time. There is an honesty pot for more logs if you're staying for longer or it is particularly cold, but if you are planning on using the heater AND the out door fireplace extensively over your stay, you may want to bring your own logs and kindling. We didn't get a chance to use any of the outside area (BBQ, fire pit, picnic bench and table and chairs) as we only stayed one night and it absolutely hammered it down the day before so everything was a bit soggy. It is, however, laid out beautifully and looks like it would be a magical evening for a group of friends, family or just the two of us. We didn't meet the host, however, we did exchange text and she was super helpful. The grounds are beautiful and lush and have a lovely little brook flowing through it. Definitely booking to come back again!

Not a "didn't like" more of a "be aware"... The beauty and quiet of the site is down to it being remote! To get here you go down some very narrow country lanes so make sure you are a confident driver and/or you take it SLOW. Use the directions given to you by the host before arrival!
