Shik Shack Backpackers

It is simple but very nice. It is also good to know that this is a project helping a lot of kids around the property. We are contributing to their community just for staying here. For us, it had the perfect location because it's very near to orpen gate. And everything was very clean. The staff was really helpful and nice. Thank you for everything!

At first I was not impressed at all but when I am used to it I found it handy is a nice place to be.

I didn't like that the kitchen has not tiled or cemented.

It’s the first time I have to complain about a hotel/guesthouse but when you cannot even trust the words of the manager of a place, then it’s hard to give a positive review. We’ve been backpacking and traveling for 3 years with my fiancé around the world and it was the first time to be treated in this way. The manager of the hotel didn’t keep the promise she gave us concerning, for example our safari. We usually always take a private car ans we made it clear with the manager but at the last moment, the night before, she told us we would have had two more people with us although we paid a full safari day, even worse, in the morning when the car arrived with 30 minutes late, an other extra person was part of the safari too, we got so disappointed. When we came back at the camp after the safari day, she literally kicked us out of our tent because apparently, there was a party and it was full, hopefully we had a friend but just imagine that you must leave a place after a full safari day, when it’s dark, it’s note like SA is the safest place on earth to walk around at night.. Anyway, I have few others bad examples about this place like no electricity, no water, terrible wifi connection. The behaviour of the staff but mainly the manager was very, very disappointing, what a shame.. At least, we could get free eggs, milk and cereals in the morning.

I loved everything about this accommodations, The staff gave us such princess treatment they even went an extra mile with helping me with a ring that was stuck on my finger . They made our evening extra special together with the other visitors that we found at the accommodation

Nothing expect the cold water which I understand was something they were not aware of

The staff is friendly and always with a smile. A real ecovillage.

In the kitchen there were full of insects which flied everywhere. In a moment we had our hair full of them. The dog are a little agressif but it is Okey. We were a little afraid but nothing happened.

The tent was equipped with very comfortable beds and was spacious enough to store all luggage conveniently. Parking is available for no additional charge. The home made typical food was very delicious and affordable. Very welcoming hosts! Property is secured by gates and a night guard.

Some emergency light could be installed in the facilities to make life a bit easier during load shedding.

Close to Kruger National Park.

Other towns are so far apart.
