Homestay at Julie's

Location - 20 minute walk to the City Center.

Despite fan, room was very warm/hot and uncomfortable. Slept on top of bed comforter. Also host goes in/out of your room uninvited when you’re not there on tours. Total privacy violation - I feel.

The room was very well set with comfortable bed, it felt very homey. Though bathroom and toilet facilities were shared, I commend on the cleanliness - Spotless and odorless!

The fact that I had to walk upstairs every time to use the bathroom and toilet, even in the middle of the night. :)

It was great to experience a traditional Queenslander only 15 mins walk from Cairns Central. I had no car but got bus day tickets for $2.40 as a senior and had day trips to Kuranda, the northern beaches and Green Island.

The airlines were adding/cancelling flights, probably overestimating travellers' concerns over cyclones Jasper and Kirrily.

The location was quiet and walkable into centre. Private bathroom with jacuzzi bath.

Very dirty, lots of flies and ants in the kitchen, which were attracted by the host having disgusting dish clothes, unwashed food compost container and grey water being collected in bowl rather than down the sink. The windows and doors did not close properly making me worried about subsidence and also made the pest issue worse. The stairs were held together with ratchet strap, which did not feel safe. The outdoor furniture was very old and unclean and unmaintained, like the rest of the property, which can be seen on the photos of stained toilet and spider Web and eggs. The shower/bath had no curtain, so water went everywhere. The host was shouting at other guests unnecessarily which made me feel very uncomfortable, especially when she was so fixated on terrorising 1 woman that she kicked her cat without even realising. The host did not respect my privacy and went into my room and left windows open, despite knowing I was a private person and was suffering badly with mosquito bites.

Reasonably priced at short notice. Air con works well. 2 friendly kitties a bonus. Friendly host and tenants. Walkable to nearby shops (Cairns Showgrounds). Julie let me check out 30 mins later which I appreciate.

Bathroom and toilet is shared, located upstairs past a security door that needs to be locked and unlocked each time on top of your own room door. Difficult to access facilities and no way to tell if occupied from downstairs. Black mold on shower floor (glue according to Julie). Cobwebs and plenty of dust inside room. Random article of clothing left by previous tenant. Thin walls so if you value privacy or some peace look elsewhere. Kitchen and laundry facilities are either unavailable or not shown to you in the hopes you won't use then.

The location was great, everything we had to go to were very accessible with just few mins drive. You have everything that you would expect or need in a homestay. Julie was very accommodating. She invited us for Christmas lunch which was quite nice.

The walls are thin and we could hear the conversations from the room next door, being a light sleeper probably didn’t help as well.

It wasn’t too far out or close to town so you could get away from the noise

The room could have been way cleaner spiderwebs in corners and on lamps , dust as well as cat fur like I love animals but if I paid what I did I don’t expect the whole top of my bed to be covered in fur it just doesn’t seem nice or clean also in the bathroom there is a black mold on the window sill that is easily cleanable as it could be wiped of my problem evening it wasn’t already. I know it’s a home stay but having the host need to go looking for clothes in my wardrobe at any time is a bit discouraging as I’m a private person and don’t like that at all. I just wanted to study privately in what I’d like to think was my paid own space. Also there is a case that due to the seperate waste system such as the jug on the counter that does bring the bugs so maybe another method.
