Keralan Homestay

The home stay was in a good location, rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Hosts were friendly although were not thorough with our check in and did not provide any advice about the area/things to do etc.

There were some problems with the owners properties meaning we ended up staying 1 night in another home stay which is owned by the same couple. No one communicated this with us prior to our arrival, and after a very long journey we did not realise it was any different. We were not informed of how to lock the property at night and unsure whether there were other guests so I felt slightly unsafe that anyone could get into the property, although there was a lock on the bedroom door. We only had one full day in allepy and the morning we woke up the host informed us a wedding party would be arriving and we need to move to his family home. He said the home stay we originally booked needed repairs. I did not feel comfortable with this so we decided to book another hotel for the night, slightly disappointing as this is not what we booked and it had not been communicated early. We ended up wasting a lot of the day re-packing and moving hotels. The host was pleasant and polite and I understand there was a language barrier but was quite disappointing to hear we needed to move as a wedding party was arriving. We also did not have any WiFi in the place we stayed. We understand things can unexpectedly go wrong that are outside of the hosts control just wish it was communicated earlier. We also only speak English so understand there was more pressure on the host in this respect.

The owner was an amazing guy, and really gave us the full alleppey experience! We’d been told that there was nothing to do in alleppey but he showed us there were tonnes! Beautiful walks, kayak, food and seeing the martial arts! Thanks for the great experience!

Host was very responsive. The room was exactly what we were looking for yet simple. Hosts were accommodating to hang clothes to dry and organize transports. He had many activities to offer as well.

It’s just a bit further off the main road in Alleppey, so we would have to hail a tuk tuk each time we wanted to go somewhere, which was not difficult, but something to be aware of.

Helpful staff, providing boat trips on small boat if required.

1) Excellent location for the backwaters, 5 minutes away! 2) The wifi was good enough to work online. 3) The balcony (with a courtyard view). 4) The quiet and clean room. We slept very well. 5) I admire the owners for having seen their old homestay destroyed by flooding and then having the courage to start all over again by building this new one.

1) I'd skip Alleppey altogether, a tourist trap except for the backwaters. It was just a big mistake, OUR mistake. I recommend staying in Marari or Kattoor, by the beautiful beach, taking a cab and making only a day trip to kayak in the backwaters at sun rise. 2) Worst value for money of our month-long trip to India, by far. For this price, we could have stayed for 2 more days in our previous and amazing Marari Coastal Dreams Home Stay, with 2 delicious and abondant meals included, instead of none. 3) Location. Very far away from the center, so there is absolutely nothing to do around, except for the (costly) backwaters. You need a taxi to go anywhere. 4) Food. Disappointing breakfast (not included), good but very basic and small compared to everything else we had in India. But there is NO restaurant (I repeat: none) in the whole area except for one very very greasy spoon where you can eat bad rice for 90 rupees. 5) The vibe was odd and we never felt comfortable, as if we were bothering Ashra or doing something bad. I think we just had some kind of miscommunication and it's nobody's falt.

1.No privacy as the care taker was staying in the drawing room of same flat that they had provided to us.(As per their mentioned, they should provide the whole flat). 2.They are providing foreigner guests better treatment than Indian guests(Discriminations). 3. Very unprofessional behavior when we tried preparing baby food in the provided kitchen even if we mentioned that we are preparing it for a 9 months baby.

Warm and very kind welcome from Beiju and Arsha, the impeccable cleanliness of the guesthouse (with the occidental gaze of Sonia), the calm of the place on the edge of Alleppey (7 minutes walk) and Backwaters (5 minutes). Do not hesitate to ask Beiju and Arsha for the organization of houseboat tours at the best prices, they advise you for your visits or help you for the rest of your trip by choosing the most suitable solution for you (good WiFi at the homestay); they also manage other guesthouses in Fort Kochi…
