smiley is very nice and organised nice english speaking drivers to get picked up at KNO, drive to Ketambe and good guide for the sunrise hike to the volcano. thx!

the bathroom 😂 .. wifi was put of range in the room.

A very good place to meet other travellers, with communal breakfast and dinners possible. My room was across the road and it’s a bit a lot of the drawer which one you get mine on the second floor with view of the volcanoes was particularly nice. :-) And Cecelia are lovely people, and Cecilia is a great cook!

The lack of transparency on prices. Despite asking, I didn’t find out the cost of breakfast (75k) or dinner (85k) until the last day. The price on trips is not very transparent either and different people were quoted different prices for the same trip. There doesn’t seem to be a reduction for groups. Overall it’s a great place to stay, but it can be a little frustrating if you don’t just want to “go with the flow” or if budget is tight!

I took my husband and daughter to Smileys Homestay when we went to Brastagi and had the best time. Mr. Smiley took us all over Tongging and gave us several once in a life time experiences. When we return to Brastagi there is no question Smileys Homestay is where we will go.

Smiley and his partner take the 'home' in homestay to another level. They know everything you need to know about Berastagi and the wider region and were happy to help. Rooms were spacious and clean on arrival. Their breakfast is probably going to be the nicest one you'll find in North-Sumatra. I happened to have my birthday while staying at Smiley's and they surprised me with a birthday cake!

Really nice vibe, good breakfast / dinner. Good price/ quality ratio. Very friendly open minded family!

Great place to stay in Berastagi. The food from Cecilia was outstanding, homemade bread with avocado or pancakes with strawberry jam and lot of fruits for the breakfast. She also prepared delicious vegan dinner for us. Thanks for everything Smiley and Cecilia, we definitely come back next time.
