Smiley's Homestay

Smiley and his wife are really amazing at providing information and food! We had nice conversations :) Had an amazing stay at their place.

Smiley and Cecelia were so lovely, and did everything possible to ensure that we had an amazing visit to Berestagi. Cecelia cooked delicious breakfasts which we really loved. Their pets, Oreo and Ooie (cats) and Dodo (dog) were so cute and friendly! Dodo would come walking with us, and would always meet us when we returned to the homestay. Smiley and Cecelia were very knowledgeable about Berestagi and keen to help us to have the best stay we could and get the most out of this amazing area. The beds were sooo comfy, and the showers were really warm, with lots of hot water.

My stay went wonderfully well! The beds are very comfortable, hot showers, efficient wi fi, delicious breakfast and above all the owners are adorable, very welcoming, I had a very very good time with them. I've been travelling around Asia for 6 months now and this accommodation is by far the best I've stayed in. I even stayed longer than planned! I wholeheartedly recommend this place! Smiley’s homestay was absolutely amazing. The room was really nice! Cecilia makes the best breakfast in town with homemade bread!! Smiley is an absolute legend, we stayed for 3 nights and did a jungle-trek with Smiley after in Ketambe, he is the perfect guide for an authentic jungle experience. I would recommend this homestay to anyone!!!

Never felt so comfortable and welcome before, the bed was so cozy, everything was clean, I did two amazing tours with Smiley (can really recommend), Cecilia was so lovely and she made the best and healthiest breakfast for me, they organised everything for me and were so friendly all the time, I would go back directly! And Dodo is a great dog🥰

Everything was amazing!

Smiley and Cecilia are sooo great and nice people, their children as well. For me the 3days spent with them was a really special experience that I will never forget. Regarding accomodation you have all the nexessary things. They took care that I feel as good and welcoming as it can be. Smiley is the best guide you can get in Sumatra, he speaks so many languages, local and international, and has sooo many knowledges, in so many fields. And his way of being, smiling and interacting with people really impressed me. We did Sibayak and Toba Lake together, and not only that they helped also with further planning and booking for my trip further. And Cecilia is cooking also amazing. At Smiley s Homestay you do not get only tour and accomodation, you get an experience that you will always remember about Sumatra,her nature and also batak people. Thank you Smiley and Cecilia

When you leave Smiley homestay you feel enriched, yet like you are loosing something. Meeting people like Smiley, Cecilia, their family and friends is what I travel for. The knowledge, the stories and experiences shared in these few days will stay with me forever. The tours with Smiley and Triima are so fun and authentic. If you'll come to Berastagi without staying here, you will miss out! + the breakfast is delicious and the bed very comfy.

Smiley and Celia were amazing, so helpful and very welcoming! The breakfast was delicious and the volcano/hot springs tour that Smiley provides was so much fun.

My only criticism is that it’s quite expensive compared to the rest of Indonesia. Also, I think there should be more price transparency because there’s no information to say how much breakfast and the tour costs. When I was given the bill just before leaving, it was a lot more than I was expecting. A list of prices would be really helpful for budget backpackers like me!

Smiley and Cecilia are wonderful hosts and Cecilia served up the best breakfast we've had in Indonesia. The kids want to return just for her muffins, pancakes and fresh bread! It's a simple homestay with everything we needed - clean, comfortable, hot water, fresh linen and towels, and an easy location.
