Ella Festoon

Beautiful hotel run by a lovely Sri Lankan family. We booked the upper room which has a beautiful view and own terrace. The rooms are well equipped with a comfortable bed, very clean and nice bathroom. The breakfast served is delicious and the hosts went out of their way to make us feel at home and took great care of us. During the day there is a short cut to Ella City that takes 15 Minutes walking and the 9 Arches Bridge is in walking distance. The hotel is also a good starting point to hike to Little Adams Peak or Ella Rock.

The family who own the place are the best people!!! Super attentive and made us feel at home! The breakfast is delicious and super filling, the best breakfast we've ever had. The location is great, close to the city but at the same time quiet and in the mountains. You can reach the center in less than 10 minutes by tuk tuk. We highly recommend it!

Everything was great!

Lalit and his family were incredibly kind and helpful. Multiple nights they offered to pick us up from Ella town - although its only a 10min walk along the tracks, they recommended not to walk there in the dark. This was really helpful as the tuktuks in town charge a lot for the trip. The location was great for us - outside of town and only 15min walk to the nine arches bridge and lots of hiking trails. They helped us get decent prices for tuktuks to Little Adams Peak and Makulella early in the morning and oragnised with the drivers. They provided delicious food and were very flexible about mealtimes (we left early most mornings and they gave us breakfast when we got back at about 11am or 12). The room itself is very large and comfortable and the balcony is a lovely place to relax - we even saw a giant squirrel from it. Great hot water and large bathroom. We can't thank them enough, we had such a great time here!

The only small thing was the water pressure in the shower was a little low and the wifi could be patchy at times.

Great Sri Lankan breakfast, extremely friendly and helpful owners

We have the most wonderful stay at Ella Festoon! Our lovely hosts took such good care of us, a hearty breakfast with enough for lunch too, picking us up from town and dropping us to the station, and generally being lovely humans to interact with and spend time with. It’s located a little outside of Ella town which is great as it’s much more peaceful and the views are stunning! Our room was a delight, the best we have stayed in Sri Lanka, amazing comfy bed with mosquito nets, stunning views from the bed over the mountains, fridge, great cosy lighting (which is a rarity in most guest houses) and a big wet room with hot water. Everything was very very clean and our hosts made sure we had everything we needed, like fresh towels. We actually got engaged at the top of little Adam’s peak, so this place will stay in our hearts. Thank you again!!!

Lalith, Deleena and Kusum were so hospitable and ready to help in whatever capacity - from giving you lifts to town and back whenever need, help with ideas of what to do in Ella and feeding you a feast every morning! So much so you have enough for a packed lunch too which is great for hiking. Location is amazing - 15 min walk along the railroad to town and all the main hikes such as Ella Rock and Little Adams Peak can easily start from here.

Outstanding hospitality - this lovely family went out of their way to ensure every need was met! As a solo traveller, it was really reassuring to know the family were keeping an eye out for me and even collected me from town on multiple occasions. Breakfast was huge, world's best cup of tea! Thank you for a lovely and relaxing stay.

Everything was incredible, the family were so accommodating and helpful. Everyday we had an amazing breakfast which we couldn’t finish so we took for out for lunch which was great. They were very hospitable and so so kind! We had fantastic recommendations of what to do in Ella. They would also pick us up from Ella town when it was dark. They also took us to Kirinda from Ella for an excellent price and helped us figure out where our homestay was 😂 Thank you so much for our lovely stay!

This place is a true hidden gem in Ella! The cozy and clean homestay is located in a serene location just far enough away from the city center (15 minute walk, 500 rupee tuktuk ride) so that you don’t have any of the noise but still can easily get to town anytime you want. But what makes it truly exceptional are the hosts: Lalith and his family were so welcoming and helpful during our stay: from picking us up in the city with their car to organizing us some Kottu delivery on a rainy day to seeing us off on the bus to Matara. They truly cared that we feel comfortable and have a great experience while in Ella. Oh, and then there is the breakfast … 🤤 but I’ll let you discover that on your own. You’re in for a treat!

Very kind and welcoming family! The room was very clean, spacious and had a great view. They made a fantastic special request (vegan) breakfast for us. Our stay could not have been better. I can highly recommend this place!
