Chathu Holiday Home

Wij wilde bewust de drukte van Kandy overslaan. Chathu holiday home was daarvoor perfect. Super aardige hostess, welke voor ons een heerlijk diner en ontbijt heeft gekookt. Kamer was ruim en schoon! Aanrader!

Eten is wel, gezien de prijzen in lokale restaurants, prijzig. Wij waren voor 1x diner ($10 pp) en 1x ontbijt ($7 pp) even veel kwijt als voor de kamer zelf. Daar staan wel ruime porties tegenover. En nog iets wat goed is om te weten: om bij het verblijf te komen, moet je als laatst een steil en smal weggetje op. We hadden een eigen tuktuk dus dat was even spannend. Maar dat is overal in de omgeving van Kandy, dus niks ten nadelen van het verblijf. Gewoon goed om te weten.

Ottime cene e colazioni molto abbondanti! La casa è divisa in due parti. Una con due stanze totalmente indipendente e altre due stanze nella stessa casa dove vive Shiva con la sua famiglia. Noi abbiamo apprezzato molto le chiacchiere con Shiva e la condivisione.

Het was een hele fijne uitvalsbasis om de volgende dag de trein te pakken naar Ella. Een station eerder opgestapt dan Kandy om de drukte zo ver als mogelijk te vermijden. Het eten en de eigenaren zijn echt zo lief! En super fijne bijkomstigheid; goede waterdruk. Dus eindelijk heerlijk douchen!

Het enige wat misschien ongemakkelijk kan zijn is dat de keuken op de plek is waar je verblijft, dus aan een soort gezamenlijke woonkamer zit. Daar is de eigenaar dan ook soms aanwezig (om voor je te koken). Ons maakte dit niks uit en ze liet ons helemaal thuis voelen!

Definitely the best home stay out of 7 which I stayed at during my trip. Lovely, warm hearted and helpful host, beautiful view and spacious rooms. Everything super super clean. Highly recommended!

Wow, we felt so welcomed by the family. They helped us with every part of our stay. Their wonderful home is located in a beatiful and peaceful area just outside of Kandy. Very close to the train station to catch the train to Ella.

The views from the property are stunning and the huge balcony allows you to be able to absorb this perfectly. The home cooked food the family provided on our 1st night stay was delicious and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. There is also a really nice spacious communal area, which was ideal for us as we were travelling with friends and that divided our two rooms and gave us a place to all sit together to chat. However, be sure to pack toiletries such as shower gel as these were not provided.

Unfortunately we had no hot water for the duration of our stay at the property despite mentioning this to the owners - luckily we had to cut our stay in Kandy short so didn't stay the full 4 nights we had originally booked otherwise this would have been an even bigger problem than it was as freezing cold showers twice daily were not fun! Also this might just be a personal thing but when eating dinner the hosts stayed close by to the table just watching us eat which did make us slightly uncomfortable. Lastly my main disappointment here was that we were travelling with our Sri Lankan friends who were showing us their beautiful country (after them returning home to it after a number of years working abroad) and who are as close to us as family - However, on a couple of occasions they were made to feel uncomfortable by the hosts, being told that they don't usually accommodate 'locals' staying at the property and if they didn't like how things were they could leave. Our very polite and respectful friends did not mention this when it happened as they didn't not want us to feel uncomfortable or aggrieved on their behalf (as I most definitely would have been). So I would like to underline here that they were paying guests and as such deserved to be treated the same as any other paying guests and that behaviour towards them was both unwarranted, unkind and unacceptable. Also, just a heads up card payments are not accepted and you will need to have rupees or dollars available to pay your bill.
