Mr Kawasaki was really the highlight of the stay. Exceptionally friendly, helpful, accommodating, and full of travel tips. The warmth of the place came solely from him and I cannot recommend this place enough.

Its access to Mt Aso was only 40 mins by car & surround view of the mountains make it beautiful. There was a dog & my 5 yr old enjoyed playing with him. We bought our own breakfast from outside but were able to use the dining table to eat. Hotel had good free coffee & a fridge with drinks. The owner gave good suggestions for restaurants & sightseeing. He also drove us to a good Yakiniku place.

The person who owns the place has strict rules so sometimes it felt like you were walking on eggshells around him.

We stayed here one night arriving in the late evening.  Our wonderful host took the time to help us with our plans for the next day.  He booked a restaurant for our dinner and then drove us there and back. He took us to the station early in the morning for our trip to the Mount Aso National Park where we spent the day hiking. Our host then met us at the station with our luggage to save us the hassle of walking to the accommodation from the train station. Our room was lovely and clean and it was refreshing to be able to open the windows for the fresh mountain air.

Stunning view of the five peaks from our upstairs room. Kind and attentive host who made calls to restaurants for us. Also lent us towels to take to an onsen. Super practical. The glass art by Hideki on display in the common room also happened to be exhibited at a cafe in Takachiho where we went after Minami-Aso
