Janaka's House

The owner Janaka went out of the way to make our stay at his guesthouse wonderful. This place is all about the atmosphere, the family is adorable. Janaka took us around in his tuk tuk, showed us all the places from Dickwella to Hiriketiya and more, and he also explained a lot of things. In the evening he took us to Hiriketiya for dinner and came back to pick us up. On our departure he took us to the bus stop and helped us get on the right bus. He also speaks Italian. They have a friendly and healthy dog. His wife made a delicious breakfast. And young daughter and son also speak good English. Thank you for making our stay with you really beautiful. We recommend the place!

The property is set such 150m back from the beach and it is really easy to find / access. The family are incredibly helpful and helped us with getting to our surf lessons in the morning and getting some laundry done. They were always around if we had questions / needed anything during our stay. We had a good sized, comfortable room with a balcony and everything you would need. Incredibly good value for money.

We highly recommend this accommodation. The owner and his family were incredibly kind. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a refreshing welcome drink. The owner was very helpful - showed us a great, affordable local restaurant and even drove us there. The accommodation met all our expectations - it's very close to the beach where we could swim with turtles. On our departure day the owner kindly drove us to the bus stop. A truly warm and memorable stay. And thank you for the whiskey and fruits!

We loved the family vibe around the property and the house, everybody was very helpful and supportive with everything from going to the ATM, to find a good restaurant, doing our laundry, fixing a backpack and all emotional support. Thank you for the great time, we are very grateful.

Wonderful 2 night stay at this traditional family run homestay. Janaka, the host, ensured that we had everything we needed and offered excellent local advice. The location was excellent, being just across the road from an amazing beach. Janaka's House offers excellent value for money and comes highly recommended.

Amazing stay at Janakas House. Spacious, clean room and common area. Its only a short walk to turtle point as well as dickwella beach. Janaka and his family were so welcoming and we loved playing cards with his daughter most nights. They were kind enough to give us breakfast on the Sinhalese new year and include us in fireworks ! There is also a small kitchen and fridge that you can use. Look no further if you need a place to stay in Dickwella.

Fantastic location next to turtle beach, short walk from the main beach and next to food options. Very comfortable room and property with the kindest and most accommodating hosts that make you feel like family.

I had a truly wonderful stay here. The owners were incredibly warm and welcoming, instantly making me feel at home. I arrived early, around 10:30 AM, and they kindly allowed me to check in at no extra charge. The bed was very comfortable, and I had the entire upstairs space to myself—including a bedroom, en suite bathroom, and a spacious landing area where I could do my morning workouts. One of the highlights was how generous and kind the owner was—he even drove me to Hiriketiya Beach to meet my friends free of charge. He also took the time to teach me how to ride a Tuk Tuk, which turned out to be an unforgettable experience! Their daughter was also lovely—so sweet and kind. On my last day, the owner went above and beyond again by driving me and my friend to Mirissa for the next leg of our trip. The whole experience felt very homely and relaxing—after six months of travel, this place really stood out. As a bonus, it’s located right opposite Turtle Beach, which was amazing. Highly recommend staying here for a warm, local, and memorable experience.

Would definitely recommend this place. It is very close to 2 different beautiful beaches, wich are not as crowded as most other beaches in Sri Lanka. The Owner and his family are super friendly and helpful and the place was very clean. I enjoyed my stay a lot.

Super friendly host who even cleaned the screen of our tuktuk. Very attentive to all the details. Room super clean and bathroom had a great shower with good water pressure. Family very friendly and service excellent. If you are passing through this area would highly recommend staying here. Cannot fault this place. Owner also collects spare change for the local school so add some coins to his collection.
