Janaka's House

Super friendly and cosy homestay just a few minutes walk from the beach and Turtle Point. Rooms are clean and comfortable and there‘s a small kitchen with everything you need. Janaka and his family are the most amazing hosts and make you feel like family. Thanks so much for the wonderful time here!

I really enjoyed my stay at Janaka's house. It is owned by a lovely family and the room was clean. The owner offered to bring me to places in his tuktuk, but I ended up renting a scooter, which the owner also arranged for me.

Such wonderful and incredibly nice people! Close to a calm beach where you can snorkel with turtles. The owners are very helpful and made us feel right at home!

The location, close to Turtle Beach

When I arrived, I was told that I had booked a room with a separate bathroom, i.e. not in the room. I was not aware of this as it was not visible in the booking. Should have been pointed out. When I said that I didn't like it, the other guest's things were simply cleared out and the room was quickly cleaned. There is only one bed in the room and the smallest things are missing, there was not even a trash can and only one socket, which was not even at the bed. I had problems with the water and the owner went into my room without asking. That's what you call privacy. I also had no hot water in the evening, no water at all in the morning and still no hot water until noon. All in all, the worst accommodation I had in Sri Lanka.

Janaka’s place is a real gem. It’s in a nice quiet location outside the main town centre but really close to the beach and walking distance to lots of good, cheap restaurants. The room itself was very clean, bed was comfortable, has a nice balcony and ensuite with hot water for showers. Janaka and his family are very warm, kind and generous hosts. We had many nice chats with them and Janaka offered us lifts around town and even to Mirissa for our next stay with stops along the way to see the sights. He also recommended good local restaurants and things to do. Really rated staying here over somewhere in the town or closer to Hiriketya, such good value for money.

We had a lovely stay at Janaka's house. It has a great location very close to a quiet beach, and also a 5 mins walk to turtle beach. We were very well looked after at the accommodation with good recommendations for food and further travel. Thank you to the lovely family for accommodating us!

This place was perfect for me. A little way from the main town but easily within walking distance and just a short walk to two very nice quiet beaches. The room was lovely, and with access to a kitchen, dining area and fridge it really has everything you need. The host and family were delightful. Very friendly and helpful and kept bringing me delicious snacks. I had dinner at the property most nights - food was delicious and great value. For anyone reading one of the other reviews and worrying about the dog, there's no need to worry. I'm nervous of dogs but he was lovely. He might jump up but he's just super friendly and excited to meet you. 100% recommend this place. I look forward to visiting again.

Honestly can't think of anything. The water kept going off but it was always fixed very quickly and very easily so not really a problem.
